I am a Missouri resident and just finished my junior year of high school. However, I will be moving to Virginia next week and evidently will attend a Virginian high school my senior year. My question is, when it comes to college applications to public Virginia universities (ex: William & Mary, UVA), will I be considered an instate student? I read that you must live in Virginia for 12 months to be considered instate tuition wise, but I am wondering if I will be treated as an OOS admissions wise, like how the public schools must meet a quota of instate students.
–Even though I doubt anybody will think this, I’m just going to note I am not moving to Virginia to gain an advantage for admissions.
Thanks!
Will your parents move to Virginia? If so, you’ll likely make the deadline for instate for starting school in fall 2019. They should document everything about the dates of the move, get new driver’s licenses, register to vote, get a library card ASAP. They should get you registered for school ASAP too.
Good luck. Moving can be stressful but a new adventure too.
@twoinanddone Yes, my parents are moving. But what I am wondering is for the admissions process, will I be treated like an OOS?
You can call the colleges and ask. I think typically if you’ve been there one year by the time classes start, they usually consider you in state. That is assuming your parents moved.
You’ll be in-state for the purposes of tuition and admissions.
