Will I be happy on April 1st?

I applied to Northwestern and Cornell for regular decision, both for Engineering

White male from Ohio
GPA 4.125W (very good upward trend)
Rank 33/328
Senior Courses: Honors Physics, AP Government, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry
ACT 32 (E 32, M 33, R 32, S 31)
SAT II : Math II 800, Chem 790
APs: US History (5)
School is very competitive, we already have 2 kids into Ivy’s and I predict at least 6 will go to an Ivy from my class.
Very Rigorous schedule

Essay: Life changing experience in which I almost died and learned more about myself in the process. I thought it was pretty good.

Teacher Recs: 1 of them is good the other I assume is pretty good, not sure about the councilor rec but I think she did ok.

Work Experience: Plenty of that, spent about 3 years working to save for college including during school.

EC’s: really lacking here, I think I wrote down Football for 2 years and Weightlifting in my spare time for 4 years.

Awards: Plenty of district awards, 1 in English and 2 in Mathematics, also Honor Roll and little school awards.

Don’t know about Northwestern.

I think you have a decent chance at Cornell. My buddy just got accepted there this past Thursday and had pretty similar stats as you but slightly lower SAT1s(if you convert your ACT score). Good luck.

He had some good, not great, ECs too.

anyone else?

Well it might not qualify me for Cornell but talks about a unique situation that not many college-bound kids have experienced

Hey, you have pretty similar stats to me, but a higher GPA. Good luck to us both on April 1st (that’s my birthday, hahaha). Either my worst birthday ever, or my best one. I got rejected from Cornell ED, unfortunately, but I’ll probably be trying for Northwestern (among others). I think you have a fair shot, at least. Best wishes!

(P.S. Try to think of more things to write for your EC’s… They seem to be given more weight for our class, along with essays. You can put things like any community service you did, non-mandatory school activities you participated in, instruments you play, any religious activities, significant hobbies, etc… SAT’s unfortunately seem to not enough be of any interest to schools, and some even got accepted to places like Standford with surprisingly low GPA’s.)

I probably should have said this but I already applied to both schools so I can’t really change my application. But good luck to you as well, hopefully we both make it.

bump (10char)

You have a “high match” chance for both schools, I think.

Chance me?

Anyone else?

bump (10char)

I think you have very good chances, your sat subject tests are really going to help, plus holding a job always looks good.

cornell: low reach
northwestern: match

Thanks for chancing me! Not really sure about both but I think you should have high matches as long as your essays are good. Good luck!

anyone else?

both schools are reaches but you have a good shot.
