It’s funny, because at one time I was actually decent at CR. On the PSATs I scored a 600, and a 630 the second time…

My question is: If I memorize all of Direct Hits Volume 1 by next Saturday (November SAT), do you think I’ll boost my score by 40 points? I normally get at least 2 vocabulary questions wrong on the CR.

If you review the vocab, you should be able to boost your vocab score a little bit - but don’t assume that your score will go up tremendously! Good Luck!

Met, have you tried a different approach to CR? My second SAT cr score was 550 (first time = 560) and this October I received a 650. The first two times I was following advice I saw here on CC, which was to read the passages in chunks and answer only questions pertaining to said paragraphs or to read answers (that includes circling line numbers) first. The key is not to focus on the answers, but in the main idea of the passage.

What helped me tremendously was realizing that the answers will be in the passages and that you can’t assume anything. This last time I simply read the passage and checked that the answer I chose was in it. Try to do some practice tests and try to find the tricks set out for you, that’s really helpful, because then you’ll notice it on the real test. Once you start paying attention to this you’ll notice how repetitive it is. They are humans after all and can’t come up with unlimited traps for you.

Vocab is also essential and I believe a week of DH will be sufficient if you manage it well…pay attention to roots+suffixes.
