Will I get accepted into my dream school if I failed classes my 10th grade year in High School???

I failed World Lit my 1st semester of 10th grade year with a 52% and my elective which is Intro to personal care service from a 71% to a 57% and now I’m in my 2nd semester of 10th grade and I’m failing two classes right which is Biology I with a 66% and Spanish 2 with a 35%. All this was due to me being distracted by others and hanging with the wrong people as well as me being unorganized. Right now I’m trying my hardest to get my grade up to a 70 at least in biology and hopefully Spanish. Is it possible that I’ll get into a good university like Alabama State and hopefully get a scholarship with these kind of grades? I’m also planning to become homeschooled my 11th and 12th grade year and I have a goal to have all As. So do you think I’ll be ok and is it possible that I can retake these classes over the summer and I’ll be ok. Also if I’m not able to retake it during the summer will I still be ok?? 1st semester: Algebra 2: 76%
Intro to Personal care services aka Cosmetology :57%
Physical Conditioning:89%
World Lit/Comp:52%
2nd Semester:
Biology I: 66% right now
Health: Still going but so far all 100s
Spanish 2: 35% right now
World History: 78% right now
And my freshman year I did ok with all Bs and a few Cs and I believe one A. So is it possible will I make into college my goal is to become an RN or Cardiac Surgeon if I can.

Right now there is no easy way to predict what college will look like in two years, let alone what college admission will look like. So your best bet is to continue to pull yourself together, and to come up with a good plan for finishing high school. One advantage of moving into a home school situation is that you can slow your program down and take an extra semester or two to master subjects that you had difficulty with the first time around. Right now your record is really shaky, so re-doing most of your 10th grade classes could make sense.

Healthcare degree programs are very competitive. There are ways to get into a nursing program with low grades but must maintain a 2.5 or higher once in the program (although some programs are so competitive you need a 3 5-3 7 or higher).
To become a cardiac surgeon would be an additional 12 or more years of school and training after high school graduation and only top grades in math and science would be accepted.

So it’s likely that I won’t get into a university, even if I do good my last two years of highschool?

You will get into A school, but not necessarily THE school you want to go to. In most states there is a school or community college you can go to with a 2.5 average but you have to be committed.

I’m not sure being homeschooled is a good choice, because classes provide structure and the teacher sees when you’re getting it… and when you’re not. If that’s what you need to get away from the “wrong” people, then go ahead, but it’s usually harder to stay on track and stay motivated.
You could also ask your guidance counselor whether you could “redo” 10th grade, so that you can have a better record for college.
Alternatively, whatever class you fail(ed) or pass(ed) with a D, retake this summer.

Junior year, take Chemistry or Environmental Science; Spanish 3; English 11; Precalculus or Algebra 3; US History; an art class, for a total of 6. DO NOT overload your schedule with too many classes.

Senior year, take the science you didn’t take junior year (Chem or Environmental); English 12; Statistics; a social science (psychology, government…); two more classes for a total of 6.

Go to youtube and look up “crash course study skills” and “crash course business skills”. Pay close attention to their recommendation and practice on the classes you’re retaking.

Each time a grade gets lower than a B (on a quiz, homework…), go see the teacher, ask for advice and a tutor. Then see if you can retake the quiz or resubmit the homework.
You can also work with the website Khan Academy; the Crash Course videos are great; for Spanish, “English grammar for students of Spanish” is a neat little book.
Also, use Khan Academy and work on SAT and PSAT prep.

With better material mastery and study skills, you’ll get better grades. By working on test preparation, you’ll get better test scores. And with better grades and ok test scores you’ll get into more colleges.

In one year, remember to come back to this website, and post your new grades, your test scores, your activities (sport, job, faith community, clubs you’re active in…) We’ll give you a whole list of colleges you can apply to.
