Will I Get Accepted

Hey,

I am just wondering what peoples opinion’s are on whether or not I will be accepted to Columbia. I am going for their engineering and science department. Also I was wondering about peoples thoughts on me applying to Stanford. They are even harder then Columbia, so I wonder what my chances are. Here are my stats

SATS
720 Reading
780 Math
720 Writing

Subject SATS
Math I - 800
US - 750
Chem - 740
Math 2 - havent taken yet

ACT’s - 34

I have taken AP chem, bio, environmental, lang, and american along with pre calc in junior year and i am in low nineties in all of them. My gpa so far is a perfect 4 uw, i dont know about weighted (i think its a high four, low five)

senior year i have ap physics, calc, lit, gov, comp science

I ap the president of scholastic bowl (our team is regional champions this year) and masterminds, Im treasurer of cultural awareness, mock trial, and book club, and I am a member of our state ranked science olympiad team, and I write and am an editor of the school news paper

Over the summer, me and my friends started a local envrionmental group, which went to libraries and malls to inform people about their carbon foot print and to conduct surveys on our town waste (we are also carrying this into other schools to try and get the entire community more aware of the amount of waste we produce)

Me and my friend joined the OLPC program and started doing an annual party in a country club in Toronto that would raise money for that cause. Also, we ran a convention with speakers and musicians from africa in a local university and sold over 2000 tickets with all profits going to the education systems in somalialand (I know a friend who has family their, and they keep us updated on the progress). I also threw and Irish dancing show (because Im a irish dancer) at a dance hall to raise money for the same cause.

I dont do any sports, but i have been doing Irish dancing for eight years. I have over 4 dozen first places in local and statewide competitions, I am regionally ranked, and this will be my first year competing in nationals.

You sound very talented, but not surprisingly, there are many talented kids that apply to Stanford and Columbia. Make sure you have one (or 2 at most) strong EC that stands out and matches what your true passion is … your list sounds pretty varied, which can be good, but they may want to see one EC more deep and consistent than all the others that also allows you to show your leadership range within that passion. Your test scores are in the ballpark; you can compare stats on this website to others that have gotten accepted. They also look at your strength of schedule (did you take the hardest classes available in your school) and your class ranking (are you top 10% or higher?). Good luck … don’t forget to look at ‘good fit’ schools as well. They may be a great fit and also may offer merit aid to reward you for your hard work, whereas the top school do not give any merit. Good luck to you!
