Will I get in? What about money?

I’d appreciate any feedback about my chances. Also, how are UofC scholarship recipients determined – primarily based on their profile, or does the essay play an important role? Could I be in the running for one of the 1/3 tuition scholarships? Thanks!

Incidentally, how is the theatre program at UofC? What sort of shows does the program put on? Is there any chance for non-theatre majors to be involved?

I think you’ve got a seriously good shot- i.e., uchi looks like a good match for you. There is clearly a passion for science and academic work in general, and you keep yourself busy. Good job. And yes, there’s a theater program- a bunch of my friends do it but I didnt have the time. They put on a show every week of the quarter (except for the first and second week, or something like that), so there are plenty of opportunities and the shows are great. The University Theater is the main program, and its made up of a smallish group of students that gets to know each other well, and they tend to do acting as well as stage work and such. You definately get big roles if your good, but it sometimes takes a year or so to get there- they start first-years is smaller roles. And they let students choose/write/direct plays, so there’s more hope there. And there are also a few other theater organizations, is you like.
Essays are very big at uchi for admission; something you might already know. Show your passion in your essays, and you’ll do well. The fin. aid. is great without scholarships, but there are merit scholarships that are partially determined by financial need. So your essays can only do so much there, if anything at all.

Come on, you know your stats are flawless. Just don’t screw up on your essays.

OMG your stats r really really high…u’ll get in no problem…in fact you can write an okay essay and u’ll get in.

u can qualify for their merit scholarship with those stats

**** this school. Apply to Princeton

I’ll say you’ll get in, but you essay can be the only thing that will hold you back if they aren’t Uchicago enough. Look on this site for old UChicago essays and you’ll see what I mean.

Thanks for the replies!

I’m looking forward to writing those essays: the prompts are simultaneously ridiculous…and amazing.
