Will I get in????????

So I applied to the UMD before the Priority deadline of Nov. 1st. I have a 3,4 unweighted and a 3.76 weighted GPA. HOw ever my Sat score isnt so good, i have 1650 overall. My toefl score was an 89. I am a full IB student. I also had began full IB after being put into ESOL for a year(which shows how overwhelming full IB was for me at the beginning and still is now). However i only had 3Cs and 1D and the rest were A’s and B’s for junior year. I have many extracurricular activities such being the founder of my schools antibullying club and being a member of my church choir for over 9 years and being a softball player for my school as well. I have received a Player pf the month award, african american excellence award. And for my essay part of my application i talked about how living in ethiopia for 5 years changed the way I see life and how it has made me take advantage of more of the opportunities available to me. I am also a first generation student.I am also a maryland resident. Will I get in???

OMG I have a similar situation to you. I am only a sophomore but i moved to Addis 2 years ago and i am planning on graduating with a full IB diploma  Do you go to ICS or Sandford?
UMD isn’t supe selective so i think you will be alright. And if your essay was strong that will help you. And since we are URM thats a plus
BUT, is your UW GPA in easier subjects? or did you take courses like chemistry, physics, history etc.
What is your IB predicted score?
what were your freshman and sophomore grades?
If you go to ICS: did you try and participate in the many opportunities available?
If you go to Sandford: did you try and change the school and improve and create clubs etc? What did you get on your IGCSE?

“Will I get in???”
No one can answer that for sure, sorry :stuck_out_tongue:

Based on stats (alone), your low weighted GPA is a problem (admissions rep said they want above a 4.1-ish weighted GPA)… And the SAT score is quite low, as well. What were your Critical Reading/Math scores?

“However i only had 3Cs and 1D and the rest were A’s and B’s for junior year.”
Sorry, but what do you mean by this? Do you mean that you only have 3 Cs and 1 D across freshman/sophomore/junior year or only junior year (b/c if it’s just junior year, that’s not good). And how many classes are you taking?

There’s always hope though, your ECs look pretty good! Hopefully your teacher/counselor recs were strong as well as your essay. And it’s good that you applied priority. I think it could go either way, personally. Good luck!
