I submitted my application around Thanksgiving and received a letter from the institution stating that they wanted me to send them my mid-school year grades. Midterms are in a few days and hopefully if I do well I should have straight A’s(maybe one B ). From looking at my stats do you think I will get in? (I will know for sure in about two weeks or so and I am so nervous, since UPitt is my number one choice!) Thank you in advanced for your replies(:

What were your individual scores on SAT? Pitt superscores, so that might help. They even superscore between SAT and ACT. They take the highest math and critical reading from SAT or highest English and math from ACT.
If you think your SAT score might help I would send it.

Honestly it depends on your major. For instance, Pitt is much easier to get into for say, its business or arts and sciences programs than it would its engineering or pre-med programs. What were your SAT scores, if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve generally heard Pitt favors the SAT (just CR/M) over the SAT (but not sure how true this is).

Commenting on @DangleMaster8 's reply…My son only turned in ACT scores. Pitt converts the Math and Reading scores into CR+M SAT scores. You can call the Admissions office and ask for the converted scores. They don’t consider English and Science scores. I’m sorry I can’t help you with your main question though. Good luck!

Its math and english that they care about on the act

@sinjbad is correct! Thanks for catching my error! Pitt only looks at the Math and English sections of the ACT. Good luck!!

Though the 24 is low for Pitt, there are a lot of people with lower composite scores who Pitt accepts because they have high enough scores in the Math and English sections. I can honestly say that as someone said above it depends most on the major. So we’d be able to give a better prediction if we knew the English and Math ACT scores and major. And also I’m almost positive that Pitt does not favor one test over the other, they take your best scores and cross them between the SAT and ACT which I think will help your chances.

@Chelsey12 @curiousinpa @sinjbad @DangleMaster8 @mommdc Thank you everyone I appreciate the time you took to respond(: My ACT English is 26, Math is 22 and I scored an 8 on the essay. Converted to SAT scores(using the ACT conversion chart) my composite score is equivalent to a 1690-1700 (math+reading+writing) just math and reading is equivalent to an 1110-1120. I want to become an occupational therapist which would require grad school(which I hope to complete at UPitt). Being a “pre-OT” student my major would most likely be Psychology. I know my ACT score is only slightly above average, yet may not be UPitt-standard. According to college board 4-% of students have an ACT score of 30-36 and 56% have scores ranging in 24-29 (the average is about 26-31) Do you think having all Honors all throughout highschool, an AP, and my extracirriculars will help? My guidance counselor just sent my transcript with my senior year first semester grades (All A’s and one B+) through fax to Pitt today so I will hear in about a week.

*40% not 4-%
whoops forgot to include that my writing score for the ACT is a 25. Do you think since they didn’t request for me to retake the ACTs again and only asked for my midyear grades that my score is acceptable enough? What do you think my chances are? Feel free to ask any other questions(:

If you don’t get into Pitt main you could pre-OT here and then do your Masters at Pitt main

I was requested for additional testing information from Pitt in September because my scores were apparently too low. I’m now accepted and attending. When they requested new test scores, my math score was 25, english was 27, and writing was 27. I had a 4.0 weighted GPA, 4 APs and a couple honors and CHS courses throughout high school. This may help you determine whether or not your scores are high enough. Good luck.

I feel like since you’re going for pre-OT and not some crazy biological field then your GPA should be enough to get you in assuming your midyear grades looked good. Also if your gpa trended up (like mine did) then that is also a bonus. So, using myself as an example, they don’t mind seeing a godawful 3.5 GPA (weighted) freshman year as long as it keeps rising (my final semester of junior year was a weighted 4.2). Pitt is an interesting school because they look into the trends and that jazz as compared to strictly numbers.

@DangleMaster8‌ upon your acceptance did you receive the acceptance video first or did you get the physical letter first?

@seniors2k15, For the main campus, admitted students will receive the acceptance video email first.

Best of luck!

Applied Oct 30; sent mid-year grades (as requested in a Nov letter) 2 weeks ago. Everyone I know has received reply. Believe and have been told I am a strong candidate, but assuming this wait means I’m not getting in. Any helpful input?

@alexeles, the length of your wait does not necessarily mean you are not getting in. It does take a little bit of time for us to receive and process the new information with your account and then for the Admissions Committee to make a decision based on that new information. If you are concerned about the status of your application, you are welcome to call our Office and one of our processors can look up your account for you and let you know if a letter is on it’s way or not. 412-624-7488.

Best of luck!

I really appreciate that you took the time to reply. I’m trying to remain optimistic; any little hint of possibility helps. Thank you!

@alexeles‌, I am happy to help!

Just re-read your post. I never thought after all my hard work, straight As, involvement, leadership, etc., I’d be at the bottom of the pile. Told my younger siblings to slack off a little bc people with lower grades and nothing on their “resumes” got in already so there has to be something to it
Just wondering-by stating “letter,” instead of “video or letter,” are you referencing that I probably did not get in, or maybe into UPB (I wouldn’t attend that campus, but even a positive answer from there at this point would be better than nothing, I guess)? Or am I reading into your answer like the impatient, sad applicant I kind of am? Thanks for your previous replies. Have a good weekend.

@Alexeles, No! I was not indicating anything of the sort. My apologies on poor wording! Best of luck to you!
