Will I Get Rescinded from Colleges? [D grade in college course after applying to colleges]

I have already applied for colleges on the common app and UC’s. I have taken several community college courses that do not show up on my high school transcript. I have told the colleges that I am going to give my transcript from the community college. I have done very well in all of my high school classes and have gotten all A’s. But this semester I did not pass a community college course (not dual enrollment) and I got a D, but it does not show on my high school transcript only my college transcript. When the colleges receive my college transcripts will I be rescinded?

I have a feeling you will be fine. Before sending the D I would send a note to the AO and explain that you struggled with this class but maintained straight As in your other classes. If you were hoping for college credit for the class they may not offer that for class in which you received a D, but I’ll bet they don’t rescind an admission offer. Which college(s)? Good luck!

What was the course? I would guess unless it was a language or arts course you needed to fulfill UC requirements it should be fine. Did you list the course on your application as in progress? You will need to contact the schools admission offices to let them know.

You can also try to retake the course next semester to replace the grade.

I agree it depends on the course. If it’s a core course, or an A-G course I recommend retaking the class in spring. If you don’t replace it, I would notify admissions before they see a final transcript in May/June. Maybe @gumbymom can address possible impact at the UCs, but she will need to know the class too.

For the UC’s, you need to let them know about the D now since they do not like surprises once you are admitted and enrolled.

Here is the update information, see section 2.

For the UC campuses that will not accept an update, still email admissions and keep the email documentation in case there are issues later.

Do you plan to retake the course? It would be in your best interests to retake the course since the D will remain on your permanent college record and would require you to report it if applying to Graduate or any Professional schools. The UC’s would be more lenient if you indicate you are retaking the course also.

Can you name the course?

You need to report this ASAP to the UCs, as Gumbymom noted. It does not matter at all that it is not on your high school transcript. You must report all classes and all grades - both high school and community college. If you are accepted to a UC, one of the conditions of your acceptance is no grades lower than a C and, if you do get a grade lower than a C, you must report it to the AO.

There’s a very good chance that you will be fine, assuming this was an elective and not a core class. But you must follow their instructions and report it.

This 100%. Can you retake in the spring? Why did you get the D? Did you not understand the material, or did you simply get busy with other things and let it slide? If you feel you can retake and do significantly better, you should do so.

D or F grades not previously known to the college are risks of rescission when they show up in the summer after matriculation.

UC has specific instructions to report any grades lower than C that you got after applying, so that they can be considered in admissions evaluation (rather than be surprises next summer): After you apply | UC Admissions

The class is not required, it was a python programming class I took. I am going to retake it in the spring. Will it fully replace the grade? Do I still need to contact UC’s even though I will take the class before grades are due?

Regardless if the class is not required, if it is UC transferable, it will be on your permanent record and the UC’s will want to know about it. I would be proactive and contact the UC’s based on the information I have linked. You can explain you are repeating the class Spring semester. They will not do anything in regards to rescinding your acceptance until you submit final transcripts in July, but they still want to know about the deficient grade. Do not wait until final transcripts are due.

The repeat grade will replace the original grade but it will depend upon the community college policy on how it will be listed on your transcript.
