My school operates on a quarter system. My GPA for 3rd and 4th quarter were both below a 3.0. But when my final transcript is sent (this is what I project my year to finish like), my grades will report 6 Bs and 1 C.
Is either of these a problem? Should I contact admissions?
Have you checked your MAP@Berkeley to view your Conditions of Admission? It outlines the requirements that you need to meet and the documents you need to present. Unlike some of the other UC’s, UCB has individualized requirements that is on your portal.
Other UC’s have very stringent requirements such as no Grade below a C, wtGPA under 3.00 and consistent performance throughout high school. In other words if you were a A student for the last 3 years they expect you to continue that in your senior year till the end…
I would be a little concerned because you have fallen below a 3.00 for 2 grading periods… one grading period would be easier to explain, but 2 would be a reflection of your work ethic unless you had an unavoidable family circumstance or a personal illness.
Talk to your GC at school before contacting UCB.
UCB requires a lot of self discipline and hard work especially to qualify for CS major, this would mean that you need to have a stellar work ethic and be capable of self regulation. If you haven’t yet committed to UCB, this may be a good time to reconsider your options

This. You MUST take your academics seriously at a school like Cal - you can fall behind very quickly. If your dip in grades in HS is purely a result of being DONE with it all and you know you can crank it back up next year, go for it. There IS a reason why schools want to see the weak get stronger and the strong stay strong: college is not high school. And Cal is not a run-of-the-mill college.
I called admissions office and they said I was fine, but that I should still fill out an update form. I filled out this form and received a notification saying that I am not at risk of being rescinded.

I understand my recent drop could make you question my aptitude at a school like UCB. I assure you I’m serious about Cal. I’ve started preparing for the curriculum that I’ll be taking this fall.
@kjake2000 That’s great news! Congratulations!
wish you fantastic 4 years at UCB. Remember to have a great experience of being a student in every way. There is more to life, and this is your chance to grow. Don’t let the stress of academics define who you are as a person. I will assure you that you will change in ways you haven’t expected, but always remember where you came from and where you are headed. Let your morals be your guiding beacon and look beyond yourself to lift others who are less fortunate than you. Be cautious of how much you let loose and what habits you pick up.
Also remember that if things don’t work out the way you planned, it is not a reflection of your abilities or your intellect. Always have a plan B, C or Z. Life outside the sheltered suburbia is way harder than you can imagine.Keep an open mind and remember this your journey and not anyone else’s. It doesn’t matter if your neighbor’s brothers’ son/daughter or both got a noble prize in whatever field they were in or made a Billion in their start up or what ever the story you hear, always remember it is their journey. You have to find your’s and if you can’t be them it is good because may be you are meant to do something better.
But always remember to stay strong in adversity and remember that there are is always help. Reaching out asking for help in not sign of weakness. You will not be letting anyone down.
Good luck
thanks for your words, very inspirational @Wisdom2share
