So, I’m going to be a freshman at UCSD this year. Since I’m not getting any financial aid I want to find a job somewhere close to campus to alleviate the cost. Transportation shouldn’t be a problem since I’ll be bringing my car. However, I’m afraid that if I do get a job, it’ll will greatly interfere with my schoolwork and possibly my performance on the track team. Do you think its possible to maintain a 3.5+ GPA, taking 4-5 courses per quarter (taking 3 first quarter), being on the track and field team, while working part time near school?

just curious, would you be willing to drop track and field?

it really depends on the type of classes and what kind of student you are, but i’d say to put off the job searching until after the first round of midterms. that way, you can see how your time management skills are working out.

my best quarters, academically-speaking, were the ones where i’d take 18 units, TA, and work in two labs. some people need to be stressed out to work well.
