Will I look lazy to colleges?

I’m a junior in HS. I got a 35 on the ACT the first time I took it, back in February. I don’t plan on taking it again and I also don’t plan on taking the SAT at all. I also don’t plan on taking any SAT Subject Tests. My question is, will colleges think I’m lazy if I only take one standardized test? None of the schools I plan to apply to require any subject tests if I take the ACT. I’m still a bit worried though.

No one will care that you only took one exam. With a 35 on the first go, you are done. Congratulations!

Don’t retake a 35, when it comes to the number of times you take standardized tests, less is better.

Of course you’re trying for a ‘perfect’ 36, but you do realize that you could just as easily do worse.? And that having a 35 vs 36 is highly unlikely to make any difference in admissions decisions. Finally, retaking a 35 can indicate a degree of test obsession to adcoms, better to be spending your time on more important factors such as academics and ECs.

Not sure where you’re getting this impression that doing well on standardized tests quickly implies laziness, but it’s incorrect.

However, keep in mind that some universities DO require SAT II scores to be submitted. Just do your research & see if the colleges you will be applying to require additional scores.
Congratulations! :)

It might be a good idea to go ahead and take a few SAT IIs just in case you do decide to apply to a college that requires them.

Other than that, you got a 35 on your first go. I doubt many colleges shall see that as laziness.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I wasn’t planning on retaking my 35 ACT. I’m not test-obsessed, that never even crossed my mind. I was wondering if not taking any SAT Subject Tests would come off as “lazy” or “unmotivated” to colleges that don’t require SAT IIs like Duke or Vandy. Thanks for everyone’s advice!

^So sorry, I completely misread your OP, mea culpa :o.

I don’t think schools that don’t require Subject tests will think you are lazy at all. However, I agree with other members that you might want to take a couple incase you decide to apply to some schools that require them of everyone.

If you’re taking any APs this year, those would be likely Subject test candidates as they usually don’t take extra study if you are taking the AP exams; are you currently taking AP US History, Calc, one of the sciences?

Oh, in that case, I sincerely doubt it.

Most schools that don’t require it aren’t going to think you’re lazy for not doing it. That said, some schools actually do let you admit additional information about yourself in addition to the information they ask for, meaning that having great SAT IIs could be a nice plus on your application.

Otherwise? It’s probably not a big deal, but it could still be to your benefit to take them in case you change your mind about the school you want to go to.
