Will intend to apply FA hurt my daughter's ED?

Good morning all,

It’s the time of the year for all “getting ready for ED”, finally. My daughter is a top recruit at a D3 school, got a “green light” on the pre-read and has submitted the interest list to apply ED recently. There’s a question on the form asking if she is planning to apply ED and my husband told her to check yes. We all know that there will be nothing or very little money coming from FA but my husband said it doesn’t hurt to try. Is he right? Will we hurt her chance even she is the number one recruit for her year and her academics is above average for this school?

Much appreciated for any replies.

BTW, this is not a need-blind school.

There has been a lot of discussion out here in the past about this. General thought seems to be even if they are not need blind, how much aid needed can make a difference. Small amount of aid needed probably won’t hurt her app. Also, some schools are reluctant to give aid in later years if you have an unexpected downturn in finances if you didn’t apply the first year. Since she got s green light on her pre-read, is recruited, and well qualified academically, I’d say it won’t hurt her.

That said, what does the net price calculator show? If it shows no aid, I can tell you that FA paperwork is a pain if you have any complexity in your finances.

Thanks for your reply @intparent . The NPC says I need to pay full price… that’s why I think it’s just a wishful thinking from my husband. Yeah it will be a pain since we own our business and stuff…

Woah I just realized that I wrote something so wrong on my post - I mean check “yes” on the FA box not ED.

I knew what you meant. And it almost certainly is wishful thinking, as most NPCs don’t even ask the business questions, but it may be considered for FA. Although it does depend on the school. Make him do the paperwork if he wants to do this. And be sure he meets the deadlines.
