I’m typing this in my accounting class because I’m so bored that I want to stop existing. Will things get better when I go to college in 8 months?
I guess the best answer to this question is “sometimes.”
Personally, I find college classes to be a lot more interesting/stimulating because for the most part, I’m taking classes in an area that is of interest to me, not classes the state decided I need to take to fulfill requirements for a high school diploma.
Not all classes, even in your major, are fun, but I tend to prefer college classes over high school classes because, even if they aren’t within my declared major, I can see the point to them. It’s kind of a “general eds can be boring, but I’m taking them so I have a broader background when I enter my career” situation, if that makes sense.
Push through boring high school classes! There’s a light at the end of the tunnel!
Senioritis?
My experience has been that college makes you far more reliant on yourself and your habits. The things you do will, for the most part, not be monitored, and it’s up to you to manage your time. You’ll have much more of it on your hands. This is not to say you can’t have fun— of course you can! The key is to have fun but make sure you remember why you’re at college: academics. You’re paying to go to class.
That being said, I agree with a poster above. College classes I’ve found to be far more specialized and interesting, albeit challenging when it comes to the amount of work you have to put in.
Good luck in your senior year and fight the senioritis. I’ve been there, and all you want to do is leave and move on to bigger and better things.
I found college classes way more interesting. Part of this may have been due to going from 90-minute high school classes to 50-minute college classes. If you’re concerned about being too bored in college, you may want to consider colleges that operate on the quarter system. Oh, and stay away from accounting
In college, you have a bit more control on the classes you take. Sometimes you have to take one that you aren’t interested in, but usually to give you background on a topic or to show you another aspect of your major that you may or may not be interested in.
I took Accounting 101 and found it to be boring too! But now i know the concepts/terminology even if I don’t want to crank out the homework problems.
Surely accounting is not a required course in high school. OP, why are you taking it?
