Will it help me?

I applied to LSA and got deferred (out of state). I have a 3.5GPA, but my GPA for my 7th semester is a 4.

My SATs aren’t good as well. 1820. However, here’s where I hope to get recognized: I’m currently the elected president of student business organization with over 7,000 members. I’ve written two research papers (business proposals), both of which placed 1st on the state level, and one which placed top-20 internationally. I sent one of the papers to UMich to hopefully help me out.

Will my extracurriculars help me at all?

bump – I’d appreciate any input given

In my opinion, something like that should always be put in very high consideration since it shows potential and creativity not reflected by grades and test scores alone. But I’m not on the admissions team and they think differently than me about many things. The ECs are definitely impressive and would for sure bump you up if your stats were borderline, but your stats are well below what the average for acceptances will be this year and it’s tough to tell if they’ll boost you that much. It’s a toss up, really.

@entenduintransit thanks for the feedback, its appreciated. And yeah, I totally agree with you that my paper-stats are way below average. Got my grades way up this year, just wish I was motivated enough to really try the years before. Hopefully my ECs will help, but who knows… Thanks!
