Will it snow a lot….or not! Feb 2024 edition

Oh, no! Rain followed by wet, heavy snow is the worst. I’m over near Pittsburgh, and when that happened in 2010 we lost power for 11 days. :slightly_frowning_face: Stay safe, and fingers crossed you don’t lose power!

they had predicted < 1 inch here yesterday. It looks like we have about 2 inches on the ground and still snowing steadily. Predicted to go another few hours. All schools closed.

And this is a color photo…

Is anyone in NYC? I can’t tell where people are, from many of the posts. I have a kid there who hasn’t responded yet, so wondering if the planned 8 inches is there yet.

We went from 12-18 forecast, to 3 forecast, and now, looks like we already have 18, and it’s still coming down.

We have at least 6 inches, probably more. It is supposed to continue snowing here until about 1:30 or so.

Wow!

Ours was downgraded from 2-5" but there have to be 6-7" out there and it’s still snowing heavily.

Sounds like this storm is tricking the forecasters! Wow @parentologist 18 inches - where is that?

Thankfully we have power, but there are currently 10,000 people out of power in surrounding areas. When our neighborhood was built in the late 80’s, they buried all the power lines underground. We rarely lose power, even in major storms. When Sandy hit we lost power for only 26 hours, while others were out for a week or more!

Yes, it is private. My D20 went there as well, and they were doing virtual snow days well before covid times.

And just north of the city we’ve got about 4 inches. It’s still snowing but l’m not sure how much more we’ll get. I’d have liked a little more so we could get out the snowshoes.

And it stopped.

Central MA, 6” of wet, heavy snow but had to shovel because it will get colder tonight and tomorrow. Need to avoid an ice skating rink condition.

That’s terrible. I realize forecasting isn’t cut and dry, but that’s a pretty big discrepancy.

They reported 8 inches in Central Park. I am in midtown, so the ground is a lot warmer. I think we got probably 3 in. It was pretty this morning, but the sun is out now.

Would you have heard anything about the snow in Brooklyn? I’m wondering if it will be an issue now, as far as melting, refreezing and icy conditions.

My kids are out there and it’s pretty clear.
