Will knowing an admissions officer help me?

So I love Columbia and am applying ED for the class of 2016. I know an admissions officer through my sister an he said that he put in a good word for me to the dean of admissions, his boss. Will this make a difference in my application or not, what do you guys think?
Thanks,

Unlikely. It will probably make a small difference in your application. Columbia is inexplicably competitive and essays, test scores, and transcripts still matter the most.

It’ll probably make sure you they actually take a look at your application and don’t just toss you aside, but beyond that I wouldn’t expect much help. In other words, if you’re a super strong applicant but one number (say, SAT scores) are a bit below average this may help make up for it. Otherwise, well, good luck!

Haha that does describe me! I’m decently well qualified if you don’t include my SAT scores :/

expect your chances to go up by around… what 5% or so? Apparently all applications are voted on by all committee members. You got one vote. Now secure the other dozens.

Marginal difference
