Hello, I was recently offered admission to USC as an electrical engineer major. I am a transfer student that is currently taking classes including calculus 2 at LA Valley college. Unfortunately, I have a c in the class right now, I can still get it to a B but it will be very difficult and it is in serious danger of becoming a D. Will my admission be rescinded if I get a C or a D in calc 2. I also have the option of dropping it but I would get a W. I know that getting a W in calc 2 would be bad because it is a major requirement and I already dropped physics (without a W). Also that would leave me with just 11 units, 1 less for a full time student. So should I stick with the class and try to get a B or get a W? I have As in all my other classes.

going for the B is definitely better than just dropping it and getting a W imo.

You need to meet with your calc 2 teacher at IVC if you have not done so recently. perhaps there is some extra credit or tutoring the teacher can suggest? I would try not to take a W in the class. What are your normal grades for math? Please contact your admission counselor at USC and inform him or her. They can give you much better advice on what you need to do and if you are in any danger.

Thank you for the response. I actually only have a c because of extra credit. I might have a d without it. There are a couple more extra credit oppurtunities and still 3 tests to go so I’m studying as hard as I can. I’m alright in math, I got a B in calc 1 in the fall semester. It’s not that I was lazy this semester because I have good grades in all my other classes, but calc 2 is just so much more difficult than I thought in my opinion. Do you think that if I end up with a C that they will not rescind my admission?

Calc 2 is a hard class. Please check with IVC about finding someone to tutor you. I would call the math department and ask there. Or even send an email to your old high school teacher and ask there. Sounds like you just need someone to walk you thru stuff and help you get relaxed before the next few tests. I dont think ending up with a C is going to hurt you. When you take two more tests sounds like you will have a better idea on how things will turn out.

Sorry that was LA Valley College! oops!

lol its ok…yea im just gonna study real hard these last few weeks. Thank you!!!
