Will my bs/md program acceptance possibly get revoked?

Hi, I am currently a college (freshman) student that is transferring over to a combined bs/md program. I am worried that my acceptance could get rescinded because I received a D in biology the final semester. Bio wasn’t always my best subject, but I still did not expect my grade to be this low. The rest of the grades were a combination of As and Bs, but it brought down my gpa quite a bit.
Should I call the admissions and explain to them before they receive my transcript? Is the possibility of them revoking my acceptance into the program high?
I need some help please

It’s not just your GPA that you should be worrying about.

Since a D is not considered passing and does not fulfill admission requirements for med school admissions, I’d say the chances are very high that your admission will be revoked. (Med schools require a C or better in all pre-reqs. In most BA/MD program failing a pre-req means you’re cut from the program.)

I would contact the admission officer for the program ASAP and ask:

  1. if your admission will be revoked

  2. if you can retake the course during the summer session to keep your place in the BA/MD program

You need to figure *why* you got a D in bio--which is typically a pretty straight-forward class that doesn't require a whole lot beyond memorization/conceptualization skills. As a BS/MD student, you will be majoring in bio and med school is nothing but bio and biochem. This does not bode well for your future success.

I am majoring in Bachelor of Liberal Arts w/ Chem minor, and I do not take general bio 1/2. Does it still have as large of an impact?

Yes.

A pre-req is a pre-req regardless of your major. Failing a pre-req is a very serious matter. Contact your program advisor immediately.

Ok thanks for the info/input. I will contact the advisor.

Req = requirement. Figure it out

BS/MD programs generally have high GPA requirements to maintain eligibility anyway; a D in biology would make it much more difficult to maintain the required GPA.

Oh good heavens. You’ve gotten accepted to a BS/MD program and you don’t know that you HAVE to take those 2 classes???

The OP (or any other pre med) doesn’t have to take intro bio 1/2. The requirement is a year of biology with lab. Other biology courses can be used to satisfy the requirement.
