will my life become a living hell if i majored in these two majors...

biology and accounting.

i wanted to do this cuz my dad said he’s not going to pay for my school unless i become a some kind of doctor. he even said i can’t become a pharmacist. (i going to get out of this by applying to pharm. school instead of med. school when the time comes…but i still need my school paid for).

but i really want to become an accountant or investment banker ( btw do i major in accounting for this?).

so i was going to double major and apply to med school (pharm. school) and a really recognized grad school for accountanting when the time comes. and i’ll be 21 by then so my parents should a little of my back…kind of. (except they’ll probably need to pay for my grad school to if i decide to do that).

anyways will i basically have no life outside of my books if i decide to do this??

Investment banker? — Finance seems more appropriate, I would assume.

^
No. Accounting’s just as good. Finance is less practical and more theory.

You don’t need to major in biology for medical school. Just take the courses you need to do well on the MCAT.

“Accounting is just as good.”

OK so accounting or Finance… whatever the OP finds more suitable to his/her liking.

so will i basically die if i double major in these specific majors?

A grad school for accounting would only be done for those wanting to enter academia. A CPA certified accountant just needs 150 credits in undergrad (and the test of course). Even if you wanted to go to school beyond undergrad, an accountant in the business world would usually choose an MBA.

You should also know that typically you (or your parents) wouldn’t need to fund grad school if you chose to pursue academia. You should be able to obtain a fellowship or receive stipends from the grant monies of professors you work for.

I hope you manage to work everything out with your parents without them pressuring you and, more importantly, without you misleading them about the money they’re spending on you! So, hopefully, you’ll reach some kind of agreement/understanding.

Sorry, I forgot to answer the question:

I’m finishing up majors in accounting and computer science. It wasn’t “hell” at all, but I enjoyed both majors. Just make sure you study what you enjoy.

CS and Bio are very different, but I don’t think Bio is much more work.

Are you kidding me? Your dad won’t pay for school unless you become a doctor?

Wow. Get a counselor to talk to this guy.

I find more issue with this:

quote.

They don’t NEED to do anything. Most people pay for grad school on their own.

sounds like you need to get yourself a new dad.

sounds like you need reality because most people can’t pay for their childrens professional degrees, let alone a bachelors.

finance for investment banking, thats what i get from reading the business board

@andrewexd
you said most people. how do you know if my dad will be able to pay for it or not??
you need a reality check with your assumptions.
my dad is a dental surgeon and my mom is a physician…hence the reason why they want me to get into the medical field. and they are well prepared to start paying my undergrad and grad school. (and my siblings too).

to everyone else, i can’t get a new dad, and yeah my parents are a little delusional and uptight. and if i don’t do premed they are going to make me stay home and go to the local community college…EWW!

wait… why major in bio? you don’t need to major in bio to go to med school. you can just major in accounting while taking premed courses…

well… unless by doing that your dad would see through your evillll plan :D

yeah he will see through that. i’ve tried that lol.
my counselor even suggested that and my mom called her crazy. :(

You won’t die…definetely. As long as you can do it both, do it.

Manayy will end up with a degree in Biology.
