Will my overall activity overshadow my bad math scores?

I am asking because I want to get into a top university, but have mediocre at best grades in school. I do a TON of other things that prove I am a reputable student, but will it be enough?

Want to go into International Law and eventually Politics.
Want to get into GW, Harvard, Yale; my safety is American University.

What is your SAT score breakdown?

Finances are going to be your biggest hurdle. GWU is very expensive and doesn’t give great aid. Same with American. As far as Harvard and Yale…great aid but your stats are at the low end for them.

What about one of the women’s colleges that meet full need? Bryn Mawr or Smith? These schools might appreciate all of your ECs.

Did you qualify for The National Hispanic Recognition Program or for NMSF possibly?

What is your home state?

I know, I am applying for many scholarships, but I acknowledge that I will be paying a lot in loans. I don’t care. I want the education that I want.

Both I qualify for.

Ohio.

I am worried about getting in more than paying for it. May bite me later, but still.

Dependent Students (except students whose parents are unable to obtain PLUS loans)

First-Year Undergraduate Annual Loan Limit

$5,500—No more than $3,500 of this amount may be in subsidized loans.

Second-Year Undergraduate Annual Loan Limit

$6,500—No more than $4,500 of this amount may be in subsidized loans.

Third-Year and Beyond Undergraduate Annual Loan Limit

$7,500—No more than $5,500 of this amount may be in subsidized loans.

As a student, you are limited in how much money you can borrow.

Consider putting some of these schools on your list just in case you can’t afford your “dream schools”.

You need to retake the SAT, and at least take a stab at the ACT to see if you get a better score. I know you want to get into Harvard and Yale, but those schools are a reach for everyone. I’d advise you to apply to more match and safety schools that are well respected in law/IR.

Tufts has a good IR program, and University of Rochester has a good poly sci program as well.
