Will my professor change my grade knowing it's the only class I need to transfer?

The only class I need to get my associates/ transfer to a university is a communications class. I took speech and debate and got a B in the class, but also failed the final. So my professor is telling me I can either take an “incomplete” grade or I can take a “D” grade. Now I am in a situation where I am moving out of State and the school I am transferring to has a fully online program for the degree that I want.

Background on the situation
.I took the final 4 weeks before the last day of school and not once did the professor tell me I had to retake it. I only found out on the last day that I need to retake my final because he handed me back my paper. If it was a serious situation why did he not hand my paper back to me sooner? He handed papers at the end of class which at that time I had a class right after I would rush over too.
.He tells me I can take an incomplete and take the whole semester to redo my final or i can take a “D” grade.
.I have not told him yet that this is the last class I need to take before transferring.
.I have gone to him 3 times trying to redo my final and he always give me “we dont have time to do it today, next week.” excuse.

Why I need to transfer as soon as possible. I am moving literally the end of the semester this year to Ohio and will not be able to retake the course at my current community college. This is the only class I need so I can find a job with my associates while I go for my bachelors. The school I want to transfer too has a fully online course to finish my bachelors degree but I cannot transfer without that associates degree. If I am not enrolled in a college I will need to pay off my college debt after the 90 days grace period.

If I tell my professor this situation what are the chances that he will give me a C- at the least. Please only serious answers as this has been on my mind, I am loosing sleep, not eating getting extreme anxiety and depression over this. Can I even talk to the Dean and see if they can make something happen.

You earned a D but the prof is giving you the option of an incomplete with a redo. You don’t want to do more work but think the prof should just change your grade. You think the Dean might help you get the prof to change the grade. Just do the work to improve your grade if it is that important. Sounds like a generous offer!

Like I said I’ve already gone to him to try to redo my final I have made multiple arrangements with him to take it on certain dates. The only thing is when the times comes he keeps tell me I cant retake the final because he is busy. The semester is almost over May 10th, but I am afraid he will just keep putting it off until there is no time left. I’ll be done with my finals before May 3rd and I can only do a redo on thursday (his free day). I am nervous that he will say I will have to pick another time to do it, but I have no time.

I think it’s reasonable to request a date while you’re still at your current address.

I don’t think it’s reasonable to request that he change the grade you’ve earned in his class. Nor is it reasonable to blame the last minute rush on the fact that you scheduled two back to back classes and had to rush out after his class.

But ask him-- tomorrow!!-- whether there’s any way to schedule a redo while you’re still in town.

If I were you, I would cancel any other plan such as work, other classes to just give my professor a flexible date for me to retake my exam. So he will have no reason to postpone it, just give me a fixed date and I will be there by hook or by crook. I never sit outside a classroom 2 hours to wait for my professor just to get approval to change my topic in the last minute before working on my speech during weekend and perform it on next Monday. Because I was in his class in the morning and wanted to change in the afternoon but it was Thursday - he will not on campus until next Monday. But he was so strict that those hours were for the current class, I could not even steal 2 minutes (that all it took to approve a topic). I was serious to get straight A, thus I told him that I could wait until he finished even if the class ended at night. And I did what I said.

However, I got perfect score in all the speeches (4 speeches) since he always spend time to help me pratise my speech twice before the official speech.

Not only him. I did meet some strict professors during my 2 years at college. They even seem not to care about students’ success. And that was the only way I could change their mindset to open their door for me. Always very patient and show them that I am super busy but I can cancel everything to demand success in their classes.

You have to retake the final and pass it. Talk to your advisor and get help setting up.a time. If that means clearing your schedule, that’s what you have to do.

If the professor raises your final grade half a letter grade they have to raise everyone else’s grade by that amount. That’s not fair to the other sections or the other students on campus.

The federal student loan grace period is 6 months, not 3. You might be able to take a similar course in OH and try to transfer it back, but it would be easier to just go take the exam.

This is incoherent. It isn’t clear what your options are.

In the 1st paragraph you failed the final and are offered a choice of (1) get an incomplete in the class (2) get a D

In the 2nd paragraph you talk about “retake my final” which was not an option mentioned in the first paragraph.

Later in the same paragraph you write “He tells me I can take an incomplete and take the whole semester to redo my final” so now it sounds like you do not actually have an opportunity to retake the final, the option is to take an incomplete in the class and the following semester you retake the final.

But still later in the paragraph you write “I have gone to him 3 times trying to redo my final” but how do you redo it now if just a sentence earlier retaking the final was something happening in a future semester?

The only person who can answer your question is the professor. You can research school policy, talk to a dean who deals with these things and see if there are other option but if this is within your professors authority to make the final determination, he’s the one.

We can discuss this all day but it’s not our decision or yours. You need to talk to the professor
