Will my school help me get into a better college?

Hi all, I was wondering, does going to a better high school (top 5 in the nation) increase my chances of getting into a better college?

Admission is based on the quality of the application you submit. ACs generally know the quality of high schools in their areas and other schools with good and poor reputations. While you may be recognized as graduating from an excellent school, you and not your school are considered for admission. Your school may be very good, but not determinative.

Depends on the relationship your high school has with each college and also how your application compares to others within your particular school. If your hs has a strong relationship with a college, that can increase your chances of getting into that college. But…although there usually aren’t hard and fast numbers, very selective colleges like to have diversity of all types in their student body which means they will only be taking the top student(s) from a particular region and school. Maybe your hs has a great relationship with Top U, but if 20 kids from your class of 100 apply to Top U, your chances of getting into Top U will depend in part on how you compare to the other 20 applicants from your school.
