Will not having an interview hurt my chances?

Because I don’t plan to have on.

I’m in the same boat…
I don’t think I’ll have one either.
Does anyone know if most applicants do have an interview?

Well, last year UChicago had just over 12,000 applicants and admitted about 3,500. I will guarantee you that not all 12,000 of those applicants had interviews. It just isn’t possible. The admissions office/alumni network doesn’t have the time, people, or resources to process that many interviews. That’s just pure logic. So as an answer to your question: I have no idea whether not having an interview will hurt. But what they told me in my interview is that the interview is just another way for the admissions office to find out about YOU. They put a face with a name, and put a personality with that face to boot.

However, and this is straight from the mouth of an admissions officer, there are very few interviews that go “badly.” If you can interview, do it. Chances are it will help you. And if you can’t make it to campus for the interview (preferable, since it’s with someone who works for the Admissions Dept), then request an alumni interview. It should be close, and very informative.
