Will one bad semester kill my chances?

(Business Major)

So long story short during the Fall of 2015 i was attending a community college and i failed two classes, received Ds in another two, and a C in another. This happened because my car broke down less than a month after the withdrawl date and i was unable to attend regularly due to the fact that i had to work to fix my car, so i was forced to do the best that i could given my situation.

However, after taking the year off school to work full time i returned to school in the Fall of 2016 and managed to make straight A’s. This current semester i am hoping to make straight A’s again, which would bump my GPA up to a 4.0 for my college, however most competitive universities would still factor the grades from the semester in which my car broke down into my GPA, which would result in a less than fantastic GPA (3.38).

I guess what i’m asking is how much will this hurt my chances in getting into a good school? I’m really hoping to transfer into NC State next Spring and i just want to know if i could still be considered competitive enough to get in due to the fact that i’m able to make Presidents list two semesters in a row.

  • completed the North Carolina Scholars of Global Distinction program

3.38 isn’t as bad as it sounds. The important thing here is that from your bad grades you have trended upward. If you pull of a 4.0 this semester and next semester I think you have a good shot at transferring. You just have to continue a positive trend.

Can you re-do the classes you messed up?
