Will one bad semester ruin my chances on getting into colleges like GA Tech and UGA?

<p>So I did REALLY bad my first semester in sophomore year compared to my amazing grades in both semesters in freshman year. Will I be able to get in to GA Tech with one bad semester? BTW, I am a Georgia resident.
These are my grades:</p>

<p>8th grade high school courses taken:
Physical Science: A
Algebra 1: A
<em>Peer leader, robotics for extra curricular</em></p>

AP Human Geo: B

Study Skills: A</p>

<p>2nd Semester//
Robotics: B
Accel Geom: A
AP Bio: A
AP Human: A
Hon LA: B
Health: A
Study Skills: A
Final GPA 09: 3.75
<em>I had good extra curriculars, ran track and was a founding member of the high school robotics team</em></p>

<p>-10th grade-
1st semester:
Astronomy: B
Accel.Precalc: F (expected grade: 60, I just could not keep up with math at my new school due to curriculum differences between my past and present schools)
Chemistry: B
Latin: B
Hon. LA: A
AP World Hist: B
final gpa: N/A
<em>Only extra curricular that I did is Latin Club and National Junior Honors Society</em>
I plan on really buckling down and getting all A’s next semester, and perhaps even dropping precalc for Algebra 2 or maybe Trig. I’m also planning on doing track or maybe JV soccer, and I’m going to start a robotics club at my new school.</p>

<p>I think I’ll be able to get a high SAT score (around 2100, 2200) and an ACT of 29 or 30
I really do not know what happened to me this semester, I’ve never gotten anything below a B, up till now.</p>

<p>UGA sounds likely. Not sure about Tech, but resident admissions there are less strict than for OOS students.</p>

<p>One grade will not torpedo an application. See if you can either retake the course to get the grade replaced or do better next semester to bring up the final grade for the course.</p>

<p>An F, especially in a math course, will definitely hurt your chances for Tech. As for UGA, I’m not so sure. I would take @"Erin’s Dad"‌’s advice and retake it ASAP. Doing well in AP Calculus can also help gloss over an F in precal.</p>
