Will one class affect my chances of getting in?

My freshman and sophomore year I had all A’s and B’s and a GPA of 3.6. In my junior year, I had one teacher who I did not get along with. I received a D in her honors Algebra II course. I got a 610 on the math section of the SATS and I got A’s and B’s in all my other classes (although my grades were a bit lower junior year than the others). Will this one grade hurt my chances of getting into college? I’m looking at Rowan, West Chester, Rutgers and Penn State for an undergraduate music education degree. Thank you.

A D for the course? That will certainly hurt you, especially because the reason is you didn’t get along with your teacher. Your SAT score is good for all those schools except for Penn State. A 610 isn’t “amazing” (in reality though, contrary to what you will hear on this board that is a pretty good score. I believe a 610 is roughly 80-85th percentile), but a 610 doesn’t correspond to a D in a Algebra 2 course.

a D isn’t the best, but you’ll be fine as long as you don’t make a pattern of it.

I didn’t get along with my teacher because she failed to teach the material and I lost motivation. I also only got a 610 because my calculator died in the middle of me taking the test.
