Will pre reads for athletic recruiting at top academic school be impacted by being held back?

I originally was at a public high school and did mostly online schooling throughout my freshmen year while moving. I then got held back at a private high school in a new state for mostly athletic reasons. I am now undergoing recruitment and was wondering if I meet the academic requirements for the pre read is there a chance the pre read will be negatively impacted by the hold back?

If I’m understanding you correctly, you completed your freshman year through some sort of online/public school hybrid, and then went into freshman year at your new private school?

If so, assuming your age is reasonably in range for that grade, that’s generally called “reclassing” (rather than “holding back”) and it’s not uncommon for athletes. You should be just fine.

Should be a nonissue.

The majority of their recruited athletes will have repeated a year.

Really? In public school? I don’t know of a single recruited athlete that has repeated a year. I do know some that have skipped a year.

It looks like online public freshman year, and then freshman at a private school.

Ah, I misread. But all of the private school athletes I know also either graduated in 4 years or graduated early.

But I agree that it shouldn’t be an issue for recruiting.

I agree it shouldn’t be an issue. But the coach is your best resource for this, so listen closely to what they say.

A lot of kids will be from private schools, where it is very common to “reclass” (come in as a 9th or 10th grader after already completing that grade in public school).

Interesting. Our state governing athletic body does not allow this. You get 4 years after starting 9th grade.

I agree there might be some, but I can’t think of a school where that would be true of the majority of recruits.

Like @Momofthree24 mentions, many state associations don’t allow this. There are typically 4 years of eligibility after entering 9th grade. I suppose it’s possible some private schools in those states aren’t governed by state associations, but that would also mean they don’t compete at the highest athletic level either.

In any case, I agree with you that the coach will have likely encountered something like this.
