Will SJSU give me a chance to redeem myself? I made up every low grade except for one, I originally gotten a D grade in Integrated Math 3 and I tried to make it up the second semester of my senior year. Unfortunately, the frustration and procrastination set me back low and when I tried to get help from the teacher she ultimately gave me excuses so she didn’t have to deal with me and it led to the final grade being a D once again. My major is art studio practice. And my final transcripts are currently in verification, So is it possible for them to add this class to make up since it’s only one D and i’m an art major? I understand that this was an A-g course and that’s why i’m really nervous. I also understand that theres a chance my application may-be be receded. Is there any solution? Thank you.
Did you complete a higher level math course like precalculus with a C or higher grade? If so, that would validate integrated math 3.
If not, then there would be risk of rescission because integrated math 3 is normally part of the minimum requirements for frosh admission to a CSU.
If your admission does get rescinded, you can start at a community college and transfer as a junior.
Contact the area rep from SJSU for your high school and ask. Call them because it’s better if they hear a voice.
“If so, that would validate integrated math 3”.
I don’t understand this. Can you please explain?
My son got a D in ‘PreCalculus H’ in his second semester during 10th grade. (In the first semester, he got a B). During his 11th grade, he took a higher level math course (AP Calculus AB) and got a better grade. He wants to apply to SJSU. Can you please clarify what issues he might have in his SJSU admission process, and what if any he can do to avoid the issues?
For the GPA calculation, I assume that the D is ignored because it is an honors class. At least, that is what I read in the Calstate’s gpa-calculator (calstate.edu/apply/gpa-calculator).
Thanks
Oh, no. The D absolutely counts into the GPA. It does not count as an honors class because of the grade, and therefore doesn’t get the extra point
My device doesn’t let me copy and paste from a PDF; the explanation about validation of courses is bottom of page 21-22.
By taking a higher level Math course of AP Calculus AB, it validates or gives credit for the Pre-Calculus course but if the Honors Pre-Calculus course semester was not repeated, then the D is calculated into the CSU GPA and no honors points are awarded as stated by @skieurope.
Thank you all for the useful replies and links. It is a relief that my son’s Precalculus class would be validated. This is how I confirmed it: The PDF linked above referred to a “Cal State Apply Freshman Application Guide”. When I google it, I came across another PDF.
www.calstate.edu/apply/freshman/Documents/cal-state-apply-freshman-application-guide.pdf
In this PDF, I saw a list of which course validates which other courses as well as this: “A grade of C or higher in the second semester of an Advanced Mathematics course validates the entire three-year subject requirement. (Advanced Math courses are designated on the UC Management Portal.)”. I am pretty sure that AP Calculus AB is considered as an Advanced Math course.
I will ask my son to look for opportunities to retake the course (he is currently a Senior), but it may not help him as it is too late - he will not have the grade by the time he needs to apply. Thanks again!
