Will Stanford Financial Damage Stanfords Rep?

Will it damage Stanford’s reputation to have it’s name associated with a Giant Ponzie Scheme?

No, actually this is good in the long run. We’ll no longer have to share a name with THAT Stanford, a situation which previously diluted the brand name, if you will. With him out of the picture, our name recognition should be further enhanced. Also, before all this came down, Stanford (University) was in a trademark infringement lawsuit against (Allen) Stanford. Apparently, his logo eerily resembled Stanford’s tree. I doubt he’ll continue to fight us on this one. So we win!

Didn’t he claim to be related to Leland Stanford?

I agree with nyccard…good riddance, but it is kind of funny to be seeing the following headlines:

“FBI: Call or write if Stanford has your money”
“Scammed By Stanford? The FBI Wants To Hear From You”
“1000 Stanford jobs cut, others could follow”

UCBChemEGrad,

I was a philosophy major. One of the philosopher’s we studied was Berkeley. No confusion with your fine school though. His name is pronounced differently (read: “barkli”).

There are so many scams that set themselves up in Princeton NJ so they could call themselves “The Princeton…” Maybe even a few legitimate businesses have done the same. Doesn’t seem to have hurt the university at all.

Stanford Financial will not damage Stanford’s rep as they are completely different. The university even had a press release about it.
