Will taking 17-19 units be difficult in community college?

I will be taking 17-19 units next semester, do you think it would be to difficult to mange on top of an internship?

These are the classes I will be taking:

-Urban Politics(3 units)
-Honors US History(3 units)
-Human Sexuality(3 units)
-Mandarin(5 units)
-Honors Creative Art- Music(3 units)
-Forensics{Debate team}(1-2 units)
Internship will be approximately 6-10hrs of work per week.

Last semester I took 14 units without the internship and received all As.

It depends on you, and it depends on the school/classes/professors. One semester, I was overwhelmed with ~17 credits. Others, I’ve had 19-20 and been fine. 3-5 more credits and an internship is quite a jump, honestly.

I’d say go ahead and try it, but take a good look at the syllabus. Make sure you know the drop deadlines. And if in the first week or two it’s moving too fast or you’re close to your limits, drop something.

No, all of those classes seem pretty easy. Just be prepared for a lot of papers and don’t fall behind.

Chinese will be the hardest class unless you already speak the language. I would drop it for a romance language.

Like the guy above said those are mostly easy classes so 19 units is fine. It’ll be the internship that makes or breaks the semester.

I’ll be pretty blunt with you. Your classes seem absurdly easy. Creative art should be easy. Forensics should be easy. Human sexuality looks pretty easy.

I’m sure you’ll do fine. plus, you go to a CC, so that should be easier since the curve will be in your favor and you can really focus your mind on academics instead of the distractions associated with university life.

@bomerr If the OP wants to learn Chinese and not just any language, switching for a romance language would be silly. Yes, the romance languages are easier, but Chinese is pretty useful and probably more rewarding, especially if you have a special interest in it.

Unless a person already knows the language their will always be some bilingual immigrant who speaks it better.

It’s tonal so it’s very difficult to pronounce for most people
1000s of characters which means it takes YEARS before a beginner is able to even read the newspaper.

I took 19 units this past semester at my community college, got straight A’s, and never felt overwhelmed. But they were all pretty easy classes and I didn’t have any jobs/commitments eating up my time. If you think you can balance school and work, it shouldn’t be a problem getting good grades.

Community colleges generally tend to have easier classes so go for it. Make sure you analyze the syllabuses deeply though and make sure the work load listed is something you can manage.

If you take a mix of easy classes it shouldn’t. But if your mostly taking 5unit classes it wont be easy

I think the mandarin will be the most difficult class, and it’ll take up the majority of your time. Maybe you should drop that one now and do it later when you have fewer classes.
