So I originally went to community college for 2 semesters after high school. I come from a pretty poor family, and couldn’t afford most of the schools I got into. i finished off my last sesmter of community college almost a year ago with a 3.4 GPA. Not great I know, but I juggled 2 jobs while doing it, that has to count for something, right? My EFC is 0.
I want to go to Carnegie Mellon for drama. It would be very affordable, due to school specific grants and scholarships I qualify for. The EFC concludes that I wouldn’t have to pay anything. Not 100% accurate, but it can’t be that far off. I may not have a perfect 4.0, but I’ve been taking acting and theater classes all of my life, and I hope my resume will help my chances. Any advice?
My plan was to take 9 credits over the summer, in hopes I can get in for the next fall. if I don’t, I won’t stress over it. Just something to add to my resume.
You are considered a transfer student at this point. It would decrease your chances at most selective private colleges on the whole, as there tend to be few spots open. However, your chances might be very favorable at your in state public school. They have spots for those coming from CC and are more likely to give you financial aid as well as transfer all of your credits (CM may or may not accept your credits).
It looks like your high school GPA was a 3.4, but since you’ve been to college you have to send your cc transcripts and apply with the college GPA. Do you know if CMU will consider you a transfer student? Do they offer aid to transfers?
