Will the ACT score requirement lower for competitive colleges due to the virus?

Basically, I was looking to apply to UPenn Wharton with the ACT score I got in the June ACT but there are now rumors that the test might not happen. If, hypothetically, there are no more test dates for the ACT, will a 32 on the ACT cut it? My extracurriculars and GPA are solid and I do well in interviews but I worry my ACT score is just not good enough. Please give me some insight and let me know what you think. Will I even have a chance at getting into Wharton? I’m hoping to major in Marketing and Operations Management.

Also, I am applying early decision! Just thought I would include that since acceptance rates are a lot higher with ED.

I’m wondering the same thing about the SAT

Isn’t the act developing a test you can take at home?
Anyway…
Have you taken AP calculus and received a 5? What’s your math score?
Can you demonstrate interest in more than business/money {taking for granted you’re interested in business and have ECs that demonstrate it}.

i have many ecs which demonstrate leadership roles in business/money areas + i started a successful free tutoring website so i’m not too worried about that but honestly i HIGHLY doubt the act is going online. Also, I’m talking calculus next year and my school doesn’t do aps but im taking the math 2 subject test. im taking the calculus ap, micro and macroeconomics, and history aps in senior year.

honestly im so worried i wont be able to retake it and superscore bc right now im stuck with my sophomore year scores which are not up to the standard of wharton… yikes

The ACT is already online abroad (for three times the price of the us test so there’s a huge incentive here). The trick is getting from online to secure and at home.

Wharton will be very interested in your calculus background. AP calc AB is the most basic background they admit and their expectation is a 5 on the test. (There’s a “remedial” class for students who scored 3 on their AB test, took calculus honors, or attended a HS that didn’t offer AB). Anything you can do to show your quantitative skills will help.

I do not think there is any sort of “requirement” or minimum SAT/ACT for highly competitive colleges. I take them at their word that in a holistic process, scores are just one indicator of admissions desirability from the college’s point of view.

Nevertheless, scores do constitute an indicator, likely a reasonably important one for most applicants. In my opinion, a very important indicator for unhooked applicants.

Due to COVID-19 stress, cancellations of test administrations, potential suspicions about online testing, etc., I think (1) test scores will, all other things being equal, play a slightly lesser role in next year’s admissions cycle, and (2) to the extent that they are a significant factor for any given applicant the college’s threshold for excellence as measured by scores will go down slightly.

Agree with post #7 that test scores will likely play a lesser role, however for schools like this with admit rates in the single digits, i hardly think they will need to “lower” some hypothetical cutoff; they will still have more than enough applicants with high scores. (Which again leads back to the other aspects of the application being important.)

Thank you! This post actually helped a lot. I will be sure to study extra hard in calculus next year PLUS all the classes in my school are at least honors to make up for not having any aps. I’m pretty sure upenn like that LOL
