Will the UC TAG program last? Considering the record-breaking applicant numbers

Applications to the University of California campuses are increasing in number at an alarmingly fast rate every year. Just a few years ago, UC San Diego was removed from the TAG program likely because of that. I fear that the TAG program that guarantees transfers to UCs will not be sustainable. I am considering TAG as an option for getting into UC Irvine. However I fear that TAG for UCI may suddenly end while I’m taking classes at a community college. Is this a reasonable fear? Will UCI issue a warning at least two years prior to ending TAG admission (if it does)?

UCSD’s removal from the program was pretty well telegraphed. having 4 of the 9 campuses not participating would really undermine the program. With the ongoing funding spat between the UC leaders and the State, it (UCI dropping out of TAG or TAG going away altogether) could happen - and without much warning.

What is a more likely though is a gradual increase in the threshold GPA and expansion of the list of excluded majors across all of the participating schools.
