I’m not sure about what I want to study, but I might put down physics (if I don’t say “undecided”). I received very good grades in AP B-level physics last year and also took statics & dynamics (an engineering course). However, I opted not to take C-level physics this year, because at my school that course is a full year double period and I reasoned the small amount of additional material didn’t warrant the vast time committment. Accordingly, I self-studied for the C AP test, receiving 5’s on both sections. Might the adcoms still take this the wrong way?

First of all, why would they hold not taking an AP class you’ve already self-studied and got credit for against you? Of course they won’t.

Second, how will they even know you decided not to take a class unless you tell them? Unless your guidance counselor mentions it in her evaluation (doubtful) I don’t think they have any way of knowing what specific courses are available at your school. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong.

They’ll know I didn’t take it because… it won’t be on my transcript. My school sends a lot of people to Ivies etc, and probably more than 100 people take C, so they’ll have some familiarity with the school.

I wouldn’t sweat this one. You have a five on the AP test, that’s enough. If your senior year courses are APs or otherwise challenging, they won’t even notice the lack of AP Physics C.
