<p>I wrote an article that is being published in a National Magazine. Will this positively affect my acceptance? I don’t know how much weight publications carry. I want to be an English major with a focus in Creative Writing though so it kind of
Shows that I’m already starting to succeed in the field.</p>

<p>I’m asking because I’m an average student. I fit in with JMU’s general standards but I’m nothing real special.</p>

<p>Yes, this will definitely reflect positively on you, especially if you are planning to major in English/Creative Writing. Will it make up for sub-par academics? Probably not.</p>

<p>Well I’m not a bad student. I take all AP/Honors and get good grades. And my SAT score was above JMU’s mean. I just didn’t know if I had a “hook”.</p>

<p>Just realized I messed up in my question: James Madison University is my first choice school, but I’m sure anyone who reads this could figure that out without me specifying.</p>
