I’m a 2nd degree black belt in karate, I’ve been doing karate for 5 years (6 years when I apply for college) and I have a job as a karate instructor (when I apply for college I would have had it for 1 year). Will this help me at all?

Nope, UMCP is a stats oriented school, sorry :/

So they don’t care about extra curricular activities at all? Only GPA and SAT scores?

Their common data set says that extracurriculars are “considered” but they pale in importance next to rigor of HS coursework, grades, and standardized test scores.

It won’t increase your chances significantly, but it’ll still make you look good. I mean if you had the best stats ever but no extracurriculars or outside activities then you probably wouldn’t get in. This doesn’t go with just umd, but every school. ECs are important but obviously stats matter the most.

Not at UMD! Its all about the grades and especially the SAT score… Maybe thats why they’re so many nerdy looking kids on campus lol.
