I’m going to be a freshman in college next year and I think I’ve finally decided to get a Macbook Pro over a PC. Problem is, I’d only be able to afford the 13 in. 2.3 GHz one.

I know virtually nothing about computers so I don’t know if this will be good enough. I’m going into college with an undeclared major so I don’t know exactly what I’ll be studying in the future but as of right now, I’ll mostly be using my computer for surfing the web, word processing, listening to music, watching movies, videochatting, etc. However I’m also very into photography and I use corel paint shop pro to edit my photos.

Is there anything similar on a mac that I could use to edit my photos? And also is the 2.3 GHz going to be good enough? I don’t want to spend so much money on a laptop that isn’t going to be fast enough.

yeah its fine, trust me, i bought the same a couple of weeks ago!

So should it be fine even if I decide to study photography or even to keep up with my photography hobby?

Oh yeah. Macs are what creative professionals use anyway so you’re going to be in the best possible situation if you do get heavily into photography. iPhoto is a great photo application and is going to come pre-installed on your new macbook.

I know I’ll be alright with the mac in general for photography - I just want to know if the 2.3 GHz version will be enough or if it would be better for me to come up with the extra cash and get the 2.7 GHz.

No, .4Ghz is not even going to be noticeable for what you’re wanting to do with it. For your needs, the base model is exactly what you need. Anything above it would be overkill.

Okay, thank you both so very much! I’ll be ordering my macbook soon :)

Yep, it’s good, I have the MacBook Pro 2.3 GHz too. I just got it for college also and I love it!

Buy refurbished, and you could get a 15" for the same price as a new 13"! You will be thankful for the extra screen space.

For editing photos?

[GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program](http://www.gimp.org/)

No mac is ever good enough :P

But yeah, it’ll definitely be fine for general use and light image manipulation.

Read your description; the 2.3GHz will suit you wonderfully.
