Will this make some of us feel better?

[Mathacle Blog: Early applications fall 5 percent for Class of 2014 at Yale](Mathacle's Blog: Early applications fall 5 percent for Class of 2014 at Yale)

On the other hand, apparently Stanford’s EA applicant pool rose by 4%.

Best case, (750 admits) 14.25% admit rate
Worst case, (700 admits) 13.30% admit rate

so we’re pretty much guaranteed a better admit rate than last year’s SCEA… 13.4% O_O

…yeah that doesn’t make me feel better at all.

It’s still really hard to get in, but yes, that does make me feel better. :)

Except I thought they weren’t going to accept as many people as they did last year…??

13-14 percent doesnt sound too bad until you consider the fact that: 1) the applicant pool is more competitive than RD 2) yale uses EA to snap up athletes, URMs, minorities, etc. so taken altogether I suspect the “actual” EA acceptance rate is around 8-9percent

Yeah, after I realized that the only reason the admit rate is in the double digits is that the BEST candidates apply EA…it definitely made me wish I’d applied RD. My apps and essays were really sloppy and I made a bunch of mistakes on them…ehhh :/

Why can’t we have the class of 2012 EA admit rate – 18.1%??? even just a 4% increase sounds infinitely better. that’s closer to 1 in 5 instead of 1 in 7-8 :/

^every year acceptance rates to HYP go down, down, down. by the time my brother appplies (2017) it’ll be hopeless

I think the applicants numbers peaked last year, and should be going down gradually in the years to come. No?

^ I don’t think in like 10 years the admission rate at Yale will be 1%!! That would be horrible, I think the two new residential buildings will add another 200- 300 students. I agree with featherso’four that the applicant numbers did peak last year and it should be going down. More and more people are applying to the ivy league because of AA, awesome financial aid, and …of course prestige that increased sharply with the US news rankings.

I don’t think it will get any less competitive because of population decrease. online apps are making people apply to more and more schools, and the top schools are every year getting better and better than the rest…and of COURSE more and more asians

Makes me feel the teensiest bit better - thanks!

actually yale is currently in the process of constructing two new residential colleges which they said would be good to go in about 3 years. so acceptance rates may actually rise a little…lucky them!

[edit] oh whoops, Collegestress16 already mentioned that. nvm :)

even though the classical music discussion is long gone, i just started listening to chopin’s ballades today. they’re absolutely amazing!! :D

next goal in life: “attempt” to try learning them when summer break begins haha

aren’t they?? I JUST finished practicing the third one as a stress-relief before getting on CC again. haha what a coincidence, they’re just that amazing.

oops, wrong thread lol i thought it was the 2014 hopefuls one :)

i knowww- it’s awesome! i should totally start brushing up on my nonexistent piano skills.

^the first ballade is the easiest, IMO. I played that two years ago, and I played the fourth (BEST) this year

hopefully  i just downloaded the sheet music and it doesn’t look too terrible. at least the first part doesn’t lol.

really? I haven’t studied the first one but I’ve learned a little bit of it and I think the third one is easier actually. maybe that’s just my opinion. however there is no doubt that the 4th is the hardest AND the best :D

i should check that one out again, then, and follow along this time. i find that i begin to like a piece so much quicker when i’m reading the score at the same time. chopin is amazing.

We talk about music a lot in this forum, lol. :)
