ESSAYS: iv only finished one and its so ‘AWWWW’ , personal and unique

REC’S: Im sure they are going to be great, and im sending in a supplementary one from a teacher that involved me in poetry contests and such - he is like a father to me.

OTHER: My father is an Ambassador (not that it matters) but that affects me A LOT as im very multi-cultural and internationally aware – hence me wanting to major in international relations.

Also, I will prolly apply for some financial aid as our government is very poor and contributes very little money towards our education after high school and my dad earns a lot less then people would think ( much MUCH less then 100k a year).

IM applying to Yale SCEA and was wondering weather my chances are abysmal or ok…

i think that if you don’t get in, i will not have the priviledge of calling myself a human being anymore.

that sat score is gonna kill tho

Hi IB-Victim,

Just out of curiosity and since you’re an international applicant, what other colleges in the US or elsehwere have you considered (apart from Yale) ?. I’m curious to see an international perspective on this.

Harvard
Yale
U of Chicago
Cornell
Macalester
Boston U
NYU (maybbbee)
Marquette
George Mason
Northeastern
U of Toronto
Iv been told that I have to many “safe” schools but I don’t want to just sit thr come April and say “I wish…” I mean a few extra dollars is a small investment for a hopeffully bigger future lol
but what do u thnk?

…and ya I know. im hoping that I can pull of a miracle on oct. 8th
thnx anyone else?

I just want to say wow. You’ve led an amazing life up to this point, and if Yale rejects you it’s their loss.

I’m not a yale applicant but, whats going on oct 8th?

thank you! oct.8th is my sat…

Give me a break! Why are you even asking?

WHAT! R U SERIOUS!!
the main reason I was asking is because my SAT’s will prolly be low (in cc terms that is : 2000-2100ish) and I was wondering if the other things presented in my app. would manage to draw the adcoms attention away from “mediocre” standardized test score… Moreover im really quite different from the typical ivy applicant seen on this board; i don’t do research , i don’t have a gazillion and one hours of service, my councilor has told me time and time again that I need more safeties because yale is “very unrealistic” AND on top of that i need financial assistance…so i think its rater legitimate for me to ask about my chances unlike many other people who only post in hope of having their amazing accomplishments lauded …
im honestly very confused and completely clueless on anything to do with the expectations of US colleges, specially the top onez. I know its hard… but some people think 8th grade math is “hard”, others think the AIME is…
So I really do appreciate your help and advice . I hope you don’t get me wrong by thinking im trying to show off or something, because if I had the time to do that id spend it on re – doing the almighty/godforsaken blue book.

hav a nice day and thnx agn

You aren’t quite different from the ivy applicants on this board. You’re an overachiever like most of them:P
As to safeties, you actually seem to have more than you need.

Are you considering other places like the UK ?. I have a close friend who also went to school in Switzerland and applied to both Penn and Cambridge (England, not Mass.). She ended up majoring in International Relations at Penn.

Wow. You are definitely the most impressive person I have seen on CC thus far and seem to have so much more depth of interest and talent than those who lack that but have perfect SAT’s.
Best of luck with everything.
Kath

jeez ambassador? of what country? if its saudi then ur probably in

lol proxy that isn’t even funny because my friend ( son of Saudi x ambassador) is at oxy as we speak. I assume they liked his IB score :stuck_out_tongue:
im not Saudi tho, but anyways that shouldn’t really matter

Jmbm: im not really considering the UK cuz of financial aspects, but either ways i prefer the US.

Kath: im so surprised to hear you say that! wow… thnx!

jhudora: Im an overachiever?? that’s a first… cool

thank you everyone! I really appreciate it - even though no one can predict college admissions your opinions have put me at ease a bit
have a nice day

For what it’s worth, you sound like you’d fit in here.

Hi guys…
I just got back my SAT I scores and they are way below what I had expected up top… I guess I just can’t take those god forsaken timed standardized tests. any who ( im over it now)… I already sent in my application to Yale as SCEA so im not going to be retaking the sats anymore. I was just wondering if you think I should take the toefl ( even though I don’t HAVE to) so that it would kind of distract the ad coms from my CR score. You think that could be the case or is it just a waste of a good $140.
anyways I know my sats suck and that will probably worsen my chances at THE yale but im still hoping that a ■■■■■■■■ test won’t stop me from going to the school of my dreams
thanks for ur help

What I would do is reevaluate your list. Even with a 2100, Harvard and Yale were unlikely IMO. You’ve gone to good schools and lived a priveleged life, much will be expected from you. There are lots of great schools that will be interested with some]one with your background.

If your SAT is at least 2000, look at schools like Trinity, Colby, Scripps, Smith, Vassar. You’ll have a good experience at any of them.

it’s too late for that as I said I already sent in my yale scea app. righ now Im not asking about my chances… Im asking about weather or not taking the toefl would be worth it at this point…
thanks

cool profile…it wud certainly not be overlooked but u will get an admission coz of other stats and data which is outstanding
