will transferring in 10th grade hurt student's chances?

Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me…

daughter just finished 9th grade at a public school, I am planning to put her in a private school for 10th grade, and then back to public school for junior and senior years, will it hurt her chances of applying for colleges? At this point, I am thinking Rutgers or U of Delaware, or Penn State. My concern is that when she applies for colleges during her senior year, she will only have her freshman and junior grades in her transcript…

Here is the reason… daughter has high IQ but has special needs, she has a B average for 9th grade, but she is not really learning in school as they are spoon feeding her, they gave her easy tests (multiple choice and matching). From what I look at, she may graduate with decent grades, but she does not master the material…and the school does not set any expectation, hence I am thinking to put her in private school, but private schools in NJ are expensive…therefore there is a chance that I will have to put her back to public school…

It won’t hurt her chances, but why are you keeping her in private school for only a year? Why not just keep her in public school?
Does the private school not offer a transcript? Why would you only have her freshman and junior grades?

while DD has high IQ, she is classified as special needs, her deficit is mainly on slow processing, it is a long story to discuss special ed in NJ…but in short, in order to show that she “progresses”, the school will continue give her easy tests, say definitions, matching…Hence I know if she continues to be at this public school, she will not be learning anything. Say she got a B for World Studies, even the teacher wrote that she is not mastering the material…why? because she is getting Cs and Ds in tests, but As in homework and homework was marked as long as she wrote something…

Yes, the private school does offer transcript, but will the college combine both transcripts? How will the GPA be calculated? Where do we show them the calculations?
If I can continue to afford private school and if she is making real progress, probably she will stay in the private school…but the curriculum in the private school is not rigorous but it gives her time to catch up…

My other option is to keep her in public school, but continue to help her at home, but it is very counter productive as she is not learning in school, then when she comes home, we will be spending time to help her with her homework without the time to actually help her to understand… (I am not sure whether it makes sense to you)
