Will Trekking And Mountaineering Be Considered A Good Ec?

Do you think trekking and mountaineering will be considered good? I dont think a lot of people are involved in it , so I think its a unique EC.
I have been going for trekking expeditions almost evey year. I am a member of a trekking association. Also, I have taken 2 High altitude trekking and mountaineering courses certified by the government.
are these at all remarkable?
I am an international student from India and will hopefully get above 2100 on the SAT.My gpa is 3.8 and I participated and won the district level tennis tournament in 9 th and 10th successive grades. Also won the district level badminton tournament in the 11th grade. i lost in 12th grade but was still selected to represent the district at the state level. I represented my district at the state level in all these sports in their respective years.
DO I STAND A CHANCE AT THE IVY_LEAGUE OR MIT?

bump bump :(

someone plzzzzz bother to reply

bump bump…

Well i don’t think that MIT would care that much, but some of the Ivy league schools(BROWN) may find it interesting.

haha i hope they find it interesting… i am counting on climbing the highest peak in europe for getting me into penn

Two problems:

 1. It’s an EC that you do off campus. So it doesn’t help the college community (unless you organize trips with other students).
 2. It doesn’t show any leadership, unless you are an expedition leader.

no, but i think it gives the colleges a better idea of who he is as a person, which will provide insight into his performance as a student and possible contribution to the university community.

as a matter of fact, I was the expedition leader

bump…bump

Everything counts man! But if all u did was climbing peaks in your life, u should be a master climber, which is good. otherwise, climbing is just a passion for u, a normal activity! oh and IIT and US admission is VASTLY different, I saw u n some people comparing the two there. IIT is a place where robots who can solve stupid problems go, MIT is a place where real geniuses go! Which one are u?

let me clear this dude. IIT is a lot more harder that MIT. the acceptance rate is about 100 times lower than MIT. and the problems arent stupid. i bet u cant even get a rank on the IIT test. u wont qualify. The barron’s books are a joke compared to wat we have to do for the IIT. I was considering the US an easier alternative.

“Outdoor high adventure” is one of my primary ECs. I do have a lot of leadership in it though

:) Easier alternative? First, you ain’t a judge of my intelligence, and the problems are stupid. Talking about SAT II? Those tests are not set up by MIT. And, acceptance rate? Do you know what the population in India is? I have friends at IIT, who very clearly suggest that it’s a nice place, where people go to study, solve text-book problems, land up a good job, and waste their lives. I think, stay off MIT. It’s definitely not for you. Get into FIITJEE or something, solve the stupid problems there, get into IIT! Have fun! Because MIT wants creative geniuses, not stupid problem-solvers.
And SAT II is the stupidest test ever made, even more than IIT. Ask any MIT adcom, he will have the same words for any SAT test. SATs don’t get you into MIT, your creativity does.
