Will UCLA rescind my offer of admission?

HEARD BACK!!! I’M GOOOD!!! JUST SIR’D!! i dropped a Major Prereq, btw. im so happy

@ericxxd What was your major?

Biochemistry

@ericxxd‌ What major prereq did you drop and what time did admissions contact you to give your their response to your changes?

@babybergur i dropped calc 3, and they sent around 3 pm

@ericxxd Does UCLA require you to retake calc 3 in summer? or they let you take it at UCLA after you transfer?

OMG thank god I found this forum. So I need help

I was admitted as an anthropology major to UCLA. I am currently taking 15 units, Biology 6, Calculus 2, and Physics 37(calculus based physics). Unfortunatley I decided to drop Physics 37 and I reported it to UCLA about 2 days ago. Here is the thing. For my major 1 year of calculus based physics is a requirement, but my physics 37 transfers to UCLA physics 1A, and my major requires physics 6A. So by me dropping physics 37 do you think they will rescind my admission.

Doubt it. If you look through this entire thread, you’d see hundreds of kids who have dropped non major prereqs to major prereqs and have their decision remain intact.

I, myself, dropped numerous courses 2 times, which probably pissed off a lot of admission counselors, but my decision didn’t get revoked/rescinded.

You’d have to do something drastic such as dipping below 60 units, getting multiple F’s and D’s, lying on your UC application, bribing an admissions officer, soliciting sexual favors from a UC chancellor, etc to have your decision revoked.

TLDR: You shouldn’t be worrying one bit.

@BurntCorpse‌

Are you still majoring in philosophy by any chance?

@Cayton‌

Most likely. I doubt they’ll allow me to change my major, especially to Egyptology, which has been a suspended major for years…

@BurntCorpse‌

Alright. Prepare yourself for UCLA philosophy…it’s probably not too different in difficulty than Berkeley’s phil program.

@Cayton‌

I’m reluctant to major in Philosophy after reading about how difficult the program is. Also, I didn’t do well in my logic class at my CC, so if that’s an indicator of my philosophy skills, I should try to switch into another major I’m interested in.

My first choice would be Egyptology, and second would be…Anthropology

@BurntCorpse‌

Ah, UCLA is said to demand that its students be good at logic to do well in philosophy classes, even the non-logic classes…

@Cayton‌

Exactly. I still don’t know why they accepted me when I got a B in Logic (Not a major prereq for UCLA for some reason), and missing 2/3 prereqs.

I didn’t have a sob story to write about, nor did I do anything extraordinary such as invent a time machine. All I had a high GPA (3.8) and an upward trend in my transcript (I started out with multiple F’s and 1 D and later got A’s and B’s).

I’m also Asian, so that’s was another surprise for me when i got into UCLA. UC’s claim that affirmative action is banned, but everyone knows it isn’t. UC’s pick and choose whoever they want and use their holistic admission process as a scapegoat.

Anyways, I’m definitely going to do everything I can to switch majors. I’d still like to major in philosophy, but the thought of getting a bad GPA and ruining my future is not worth the risk.

@BurntCorpse‌

Eh, a B in a symbolic logic course isn’t bad. And by the way, philosophy isn’t too selective at UCLA, so that’s probably why they admitted you.

I maintain that you’ll be fine, but if you’re unsure of your ability to do well in philosophy, that’s fine and understandable.

Hi Everyone! I just want to let you guys know that my admission did not get revoked. My major is neuroscience, but I dropped O chem I which is the prerequisite of my major. UCLA lets me retake this class in summer with a B or better. I submitted the change on 04/24/14, and I got a respond today(05-12-14). Yes, it took them 3 weeks to make a decision when you dropped a major course. Just BE PATIENT!

If you drop a class, notify them. They don’t tend to revoke anyone! They understand what circumstances we are facing as a community college student.

Good luck everyone! Hopefully, I will see you all at UCLA. :slight_smile:

@awevicsum did you state that you were going to take the O chem during the summer or did you only write down what class you dropped and then in the new contract is said oh you have to take O chem during the summer. I got int as an anthropology major and I dropped a physics class, but thats all I reported I did not write down that i was going to take it during the summer.

@collegeman18 Yes, I wrote down that I plan to retake it in summer since its a prerequisite and my major is super impacted at UCLA. Is physic a class that you need to take to finish IGETC? If so, I recommend retaking it during the summer. If not, I don’t think its gonna affect your admission. However, you do need to write a reason why you had to drop the class.

@awevicsum no its not for igetc. It is a major pre requisite but technically the physics i was taking was not even equivalent to UCLA’s physics for my anthropology major.

So far most of these questions have been regarding dropping courses. Can’t wait to see what happens when people start posting about getting Cs or worse.

I’ll probably be one of the first ones heh
