Will UK degree hinder my chance at jobs in NYC or other big american city?

Hi everyone,

I am currently a high school senior living in Seattle, but I moved here from England a few years ago. I only applied to University of Washington and got in, but I also got an offer from University of Manchester in the UK.

Academically, UW and University of Manchester seem to be on the same level, especially their business schools. In the UK you decide what you’re going to major in before you go, and the course I decided to major in is “International Management with American Business Studies”, and includes one year at an American university as part of the course (the colleges include nyu, uc, umass, and uw).

My dream is to start or working up quickly to a job with a high salary upon graduating, high enough so I can live the dream in a large American city - nice apartment, crazy night life, etc.

If I am trying to get a job in NYC would it really be that much better to have a degree from UW Foster School of Business than Manchester Business School?

Thanks for reading :)

Local is better but people will work you. Have copies of you transcript and your green card (resident visa, etc.). Be prepared to answer questions to gauge your knowledge of fundamentals.

If you’re in finance fundamentals like:

Discount a cash stream to find the market value of a rental property. Do you use DCF or something else industry specific? Then the Net present value. $6k/mo for 10 years. Then compare with another property which one is better? use IRR with local capt rates at 8% (for example). Calculate ROE for the bottom line on this transaction with 50% leverage.
