I am in the process of changing careers and will go back to school full-time beginning this summer for 1-2 years without working. I am married with two children age 2 & 4. My wife is going to stay at home with the kids and we will be living on public and private loans for at least the first year. It is postbaccalaureate so I will only qualify for loans, no grants or scholarships. Does anyone know if we will qualify for TANF, foodstamps & Medicaid? We are in California. I contacted the welfare office but they cannot give me information without us first applying. We are trying to plan ahead and can’t apply till I start school in the summer. Along with this, we have one car worth $8000. Would we need to replace this car with one below the $4650 vehicle eligibility limit or would our loans offset all assets? As we put together our financial plan we are trying to exhaust all options. Thanks.
