Will Yale rescind their offer?

<p>Hey, I read that Yale will rescind their decision if my grades significantly fall. Is this significant enough? I just sorta need assurance or preparation. I was reading some people’s threads and saw some horror stories. I don’t know whether to believe them or to assume they are just ■■■■■■.</p>

<p>Your second term senior grades did not fall by that much (1C, no D’s), so I would think you’re ok. Not to worry.</p>

<p>Thanks for the reply. Do you happen to know how many decisions, on average, get rescinded every year? Jeez, I’ve just started having these doubts and dreadful feelings about the B+ to C+ decline :[</p>

<p>I don’t think you need to worry, but you could always email your admissions officer for reassurance.</p>

<p>Relax, rescinds are infrequent and happen when an ‘A’ student falls to a ‘D’ student. They are not going to rescind you for one ‘C’.</p>

<p>Yale might send you a letter admonishing you, but it’s not going to rescind you. This question gets asked by numerous kids this time of year about lots of schools, and I haven’t read about any of them getting rescinded yet. I’m sure it must happen, but not that often.</p>

<p>D’s high school counselor told us of a kid from some years in the past who had been admitted early to a competitive college (not Yale non-ivy) who went on to goof off the rest of year, getting mostly C’s when he had previously been an A student. He was rescinded.</p>

I’d be interested in anybody who personally knows a kid who was rescinded–“some years in the past” could mean 1967. I’m sure it happens occasionally–but the concern about it is exaggerated this time of year.</p>

<p>That’s the letter admonishing you I was talking about. The article doesn’t say how many students are actually rescinded out of those who get the “Fear of God” letter.</p>

<p>In my experience as a teacher (over 20 years) I have only had one student rescinded (that I know of), dropped two F’s and a D his last Q senior year. A C and some B’s? Don’t worry about it.</p>

<p>It had to be in the prior 15 years that the counselor had been at my D’s school. My D’s H.S. had about 50-60 graduating seniors every year, that means the counselor had seen about 750-900 students in that time period. I am pretty sure he said there had been two students in his experience at that school, but I only remember what he said about a certain student from what I took to be the more recent past (prior 5 years). I may be mis-remembering the details- there may have been a few D’s along with C’s. There were no F’s.</p>

<p>The college was Johns Hopkins. </p>

<p>Funny thing is, we had this conversation with him because my daughter was worried about missing a couple of days of class to go to Bulldog days and Princeton Preview days. She had been trending a B in AP BC Calculus and was afraid that she would fall behind too much and heaven forbid, get a C, and then get rescinded. The conversation with the H.S. counselor provided the reassurance she needed to go to BDD.</p>

<p>I have no memory of what grade she finally got in BC Calc, though I know she got a 5 on the exam.</p>
