Will Yale Take This Into Account?!?

Hey guys,

Quick question. I am from a semi-rural area in Nebraska. Additionally, in the 100 year history of my public school, the best school that anyone has gone to has been dartmouth. I am not trying to complain or anything, but it has been very tough trying to stand out as compared to say people in more urban New York or Connecticut. I mean I have won a few state championships at economics/finance challenges and through science olympiad. However, as of now, I havent done Siemens/Intel STS (lol no one from my state even submitted anything to Siemens last year) and I havent attended stuff like RSI or TASP…though I did have a research internship at my med center. So, will Yale take the area I have grown up in and that sort of thing into account?

They definitely asses each applicant within the context of his or her environment. You should never assume that they will automatically know what this environment is, however. So you should make sure to talk about things like this in your essay as that will give them the context they seek to understand the rest of you.

Yes, they will take it into account. But that doesn’t mean that therefore you are certain to be accepted. Just do your best, present yourself as well and as fully as possibly in your application, DON’T NEGLECT YOUR SAFETIES, and apply to a broad set of schools that are Yale’s peers (such as Dartmouth).
