Will you buy an electric or hybrid car next?

It was $222 for the Bolt’s battery. Mr. Stringbird replaced it himself so I do not know what the dealership would have charged for labor.

The C-Max battery was $195 plus diagnostics and labor, $300-ish altogether. Mr. Stringbird was gobsmacked by this quote, but a quick Google search suggests it is in line with the going rate.

Those prices sound very reasonable to me. Likely less than the overall service you would have paid on an ICE car over the time you owned it.

I don’t know, but it’s just like the 12V battery in an ICE car so probably the same thing that happens to those when they are replaced.

I expect so. The Bolt doesn’t need oil changes or other routine maintenance that the ICE car needs, and the 12V battery life of six years is consistent with what I would have expected on an ICE car too.

Those jerks are known as Iceholes. Why people need to purposely block chargers is beyond me.

It is unfortunate that other charging companies haven’t kept pace with tesla supercharger network . When we have taken a road rip in the tesla, the car takes us to the superchargers and lets us know the speed and availability of the chargers. Only once did I encounter a broken supercharger, and I messaged tesla to advise them (gave the location and charger number).

It’s amusing that some people who have never driven an EV are critical of them. I love that when I get into my car today, I can preheat the interior and the seats, and the battery will be charged to 80% (that is the sweet spot for my car)and I never have to sit in line at Costco to gas up my car. In fact, I noticed yesterday when I was a passenger in a friend’s car, that I actually looked at a gas station and noticed the price. I cannot remember the last time I looked or cared what a gallon of gas cost. It is not relevant to my daily life. My app tells me that I have saved about $305 by avoiding gasoline

The most irritating part was that it was clearly the dealership itself that had blocked the chargers. What the heck?!

Yikes, that’s outrageous. Tesla charges ~$125 to replace the 12v if its out of warranty, and they come to your house.

What brand dealership? Time to reach out to the regional manager and/or go to social media and complain, loudly!

Yeah, $125 is more in line with what Mr. Stringbird was expecting when he got the quote for the C-Max. By the time we got the quote for the Bolt we had already chalked it up to inflation. That’s interesting that it’s still so cheap for the Tesla!

Good point! It was a Nissan dealership. I likely won’t report a complaint this time - it’s been several days now - but I’ll definitely report it if it happens again.

12v battery prices vary so much by model and characteristics that it’s hard to say what a “good” price is for a 12v. I don’t think I’ve spent less than $200 for a 12v since the 90s but that’s just a function of the cars I drive and the type of battery I buy.

Dealerships gotta make their money somehow. Part of it coudl be the battery itself, On my former car, I used to replace the battery at an independent shop, and the owner told me that her price for my non-OEM battery was $130, so she only charged me $30 labor for replacement and testing.

Did you happen to take a photo of their card blocking the chargers?

Kid was shopping for a hybrid RAV recently, so I got to hang out with her baby at a local Toyota dealership while kid was test driving. Saw a BZ or whatever it is called on display. A very elegant car IMO! One thing that irritates me about dealerships is their upcharges for “features” no one wants! Door “protectors” $700, some paint coating, window coating… the total was close to $7,500 for one car!!!

@BunsenBurner D2 and I saw one of these trucks on the road last week. D2 was videoing it as I was driving and what surprised us most was that a woman was driving.

Ah…the paint coating. The Volvo dealership puts some paint coating on all of their incoming cars for $1499. We graciously declined this…and were able to do so because the car had not arrived at the dealership…was in transit.

I spoke to the service manager about maybe getting this…and he said not to bother. Just wash and wax or clear coat the car periodically. No evidence that this stuff they put on does anything special.

This was on all of their cars…reminded me of Rusty Jones…remember that lifetime warranty that wasn’t any good because the company went belly up?

Well, in defense of dealers, they did offer me a pretty good deal on lifetime oil changes when I bought my EV…

When we bought DH’s Prius last year, they were extremely hard to get, and basically had to be purchased pre-arrival into the US. The dealership tried to pride themselves in not marking up the price above invoice, but slapped on $2500 worth of nonsense we didn’t want (LoJack, window tinting, etc). We were able to pick up the car BEFORE they put that junk in it but they refused to remove it from the purchase. DH had to go back in when the tinting and whatever else arrived and wait while it was being installed.

Oh gosh no. I just cussed, apologized to my daughter for cussing, and drove off

There is a Facebook group called “ice holes”. You should check to see if that dealership is featured!
