Will You Go to the Cinema This Year?

Mr. B was in a choir for many years. He calls BS - those folks who said they were all 6 feet apart at that choir practice. Imagine if they did stand 6 feet apart… now imagine how big that stage was… not happening.

One very important factor is ACH. How many times per hour the room empties and fills back with fresh air. Let me guess… that choir practice room was not designed like a biotech lab or an airplane.

We have a drive in that was open last year. I hope they are open this year too!

I’ll be drive-ins only for a while longer. Happy to have one near me.

Good point. I just took them at their word that they were all 6 feet apart.

For 60 people, it would have had to be a huge space for them to have been 6’ apart. Good point @BunsenBurner’s H.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is loosening eligibility rules for next year’s Oscars, given that no films are set to premiere in movie theaters for the foreseeable future. Movies that had a planned theatrical release but had to cancel it and were then released digitally will be eligible for Oscar gold in 2021. Meanwhile, the ■■■■■■ sequel made more money in three weeks of digital release than the original did in five months in theaters, leading NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell to say the direct-release option could be a new business model for big-budget films, even once the pandemic is over. That, in turn, caused AMC to say it won’t play any Universal films in its theaters." source: need2know

Yes, but not right now. When it’s safe to do so, absolutely.

No. Saw the Star Wars and Harry Potter movies on the big screen but otherwise have avoided the too loud movie theater. Comfy chair with surround sound I can control is nicer than eardrums tortured.

No. We wait for new releases to hit the streaming services. We don’t care when (if) we see them and prefer the comfort of home even for movies that are specifically designed to be seen in theaters.

Our Sony Bravia’s screen is plenty big.

Our local fancy movie theater ( where you sit in comfy recliners and order food) just sent out a very long questionnaire asking customers about when and if they will come back to the theater. Lots of questions about sanitation and putting plexiglass between the seats? Honestly think they were trying to figure out whether they should just give up and close for good

One of our movie theater complexes in the nice indoor mall is in the process of remodeling. Maybe it can incorporate whatever is learned to make movie viewing as safe as possible before it reopens.

We enjoy going to the movies - the fancy ones with recliners, food and drinks. We will return as soon as it’s safe enough to do so.

Just read in our local, small town paper, that a local business is applying for a permit to convert his parking lot into a drive in movie theater. We would be so on board with that!

Interesting moves this week from the Academy Awards and from AMC Theaters. If Cinemas are no longer an attraction, I’ll miss the big screen experience. Will you be satisfied with streaming and straight to video for new releases? Would you anti-trusters out there oppose the studios, like Disney, getting back into the cinema-owning business? Apparently congress is about to change the existing law.

The last movie I saw at a drive in was Jaws. Totally missed the bass due to the little tinny speaker perched on the window. Now that our cars have sound systems that rival theaters, I’m ready to try again.

I will go to the cinema, but maybe not for another few months. With a mask on.

I’ll probably never go to a drive-in. I’d rather watch a movie on my TV than sit in my car. But I do hope I can go to a movie in a movie theater again sometime. It’s something I really enjoy even though I only go about five times a year.
