<p>They are not similar. Are you a resident of either state? If so, there will probably be a big cost difference. If you really like football, William and Mary is probably not your kind of place. I would pick U Wisconsin Honors if in doubt. It probably has more academic options should you change your mind about majors, etc. I would like the location much more, too, but that is me. William and Mary is academically intensive, so being in Honors is not a necessity. If you want a challenging liberal arts atmosphere, go there. If you want a good big university atmosphere, go to Wisconsin.</p>
<p>I would pick Wisconsin-Madison, unless there is a large cost difference. College of William and Mary is awesome. It is ancient by US standards, has gorgeous buuldings and open areas and is located in a quaint colonial village. But Wisconsin-Madison is a far more practical and well rounded university/college town. I agree with OneMom. If you are very keen on a tight-knit, LACish, intellectual atmosphere and wish to major in a highly specialized discipline such as Colonial History or Literature, go for William and Mary. However, if you want a well-rounded experience, I’d say Wisconsin will have more to offer.</p>
